Stouffville/Ballantrae - Musselman's Lake

I started by mounting a pair of dual bay antenna on the rear of my house and angling them somewhat arbitrarily. Each dual bay feeds a Motorola signal booster and they are then coupled and sent to a distribution amplifier. This is a list of the channels I can pick up with the antenna now mast mounted just above my roof at about 16 feet.

Also of note is that I am in the valley of Musselman's Lake (a kettle lake).

2-1 (poor - comes in occasionally)
2-2 (poor - comes in occasionally)
3-1 good
4-1 (poor - comes in occasionally)
5-1 good
7-1 (poor - comes in occasionally)
9-1 good
17-1 weak - comes in often
17-2 weak - comes in often
17-3 weak - comes in often
19-1 good
23-1 weak - comes in often
25-1 good
29-1 weak - comes in often
29-2 weak - comes in often
36-1 weak - comes in often
41-1 good
41-2 good
47-1 good
49-1 weak - comes in sometimes
49-2 weak - comes in sometimes
57-1 good
69-1 good

All in all I am VERY happy not to be paying cable bills for the drivel they broadcast most of the time. 17-3 is my favorite channel by far!

I am contemplating building a second array to split the aim towards the two most populated compass points

Are you asking for help with reception?? If so , Do as the other question askers do and , Do This -> http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=4. Use the exact address to make the tvfool radar report. Make the antenna height 16 feet.

Boxerfan 18-Apr-2012 11:14 AM

Not asking for help, just reporting what I can pick up.

I noticed that channel 2 does not appear in the listings when I use the tools for signal analysis. I just thought it would be helpful to report all the channels and relative strengths.

Without the TVFool plot as a reference, the report isn't really relevant since pretty much no one except you knows where you are....

Boxerfan 18-Apr-2012 5:06 PM

I don't understand....

After I enter a plot is it saved? Are you referring to the signal analysis tool?

My address is 15 Restnook Lane, Stouffville, Ontario, Canada, L4A 7X3

....

No. The plot is generated on demand for each user who clicks on your link. The data necessary to generate each plot is in the link that you post. This way, the generated plot is always based on the current information in TV Fool's database.

BTW, you should never ever post your real address on the Internet. The TV Fool Radar plot tool uses your real address, but conceals it from the public.

Actually it is a persons choice , a person can post there address if they want to. Every day people put there face and there real name on the internet.

You are absolutely correct. Point well taken.

Meh...

The reason I am over the air now is 2 fold. 1, I don't like the price of cable. It's waaaaay too high. and 2, my ex has taken everything of value so robbing me would be less than fruitful. I don't even have HDTVs. I use el-cheapo converter boxes.

Maybe someone wants my boxers from the clothes line! LOL.

Anyway... I must say I am very pleased overall. I get most of the stuff I might choose to watch and the PBS channels are really quite good.

What are the make and model numbers of the , antennas , the motorola amplifiers and the distribution amplifier. As I understand it both antennas and amplifiers are connected on to one coax , 'the on to one coax' , will cause reception problems.

Here is Boxerfan's report at 20 feet. I went to the trouble of remapping his virtual channels to real, then wnet down the table of the TVFool report to see how his results matched. Overall, his results agree quite well, as all his "good" channels are predicted to have 0 or better Noise Margins. His "weak" and "poor" stations are all 2-edge paths with -12 or worse Noise Margins in the grey part of the table.

Boxerfan, I would say that you are doing as well as you can right now. I seriously doubt that you can significantly improve the reliability of the weak and poor stations - there's just not enough signal to be had.
