antenna recommendations
I'm trying to decide which antenna I need, based on two sources of info.
My tv fool report is here: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...a362296333d0f3 and antennaweb.org says I need a violet strength antenna. From the tvfool report, I feel like a winegard hd7694 should be acceptable. But if I really do need violet level strength, then I guess I need the 7697. I'd like to avoid that if I can, since it costs twice as much though. I know I need something with a decent amount of strength, because I've tried a few set top antennas and they can't ever get WFAA(8). Its the only vhf station I need to receive, but its also the station with the best programming, so I really want to receive it! Any thoughts/suggestions on which antenna to go with? Will I need a pre-amp if I only plan on servicing 1 tv with the antenna? I'll have to run 100-150' of cable to get from the attic to the TV. Also, would this http://www.amazon.com/Antennas-Direc...d_bxgy_e_img_c mount be ok for either of those antennas, or do you have any suggestions? Thanks! |

Your location is close to the transmitters , the signals are VERY STRONG , NO ANTENNA AMPLIFIER is needed. A Non Amplified indoor antenna should be Ok . http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=233 . A simple roof top antenna will be fine. If the house has the standard flat composition shingles , a strong and sturdy mount to use is a tripod mount. Or a eve mount at the peak of the roof works well. This antenna , Winegard HD7080P is a Heavy Duty antenna so as to last a long time out side. Do Not connect a amplifier , the signals are very strong and easly overload a amplifier. http://www.solidsignal.com

Since your cable run is pretty long, I suggest the Winegard 7694. It should easily drive one TV, but if not, you can safely use a low/medium gain preamp since the antenna is in the attic. I would try without the preamp first though.
I recommended the 7694 because I'm assuming you aren't interested in any of the stations on LO-VHF (KHPK, KSFW & KZFW) |
