Best Antenna choice based on my Detroit Suburbs information.
Hey everyone,
Ditching cable going with some OTA HD stuff hooked up thru my pc on the tv thru media center so i can use it like a DVR without the fees in addition to a roku with netflix and hulu, can't wait to cancel directv and the fees involved! Here are my tvfool results based on my address I am in South Lyon Michigan btw. http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...ec1294ca721552 Appears I have a mix if VHF HI and UHF channels (looking to pull in the eastern signals like nbc abc cbs approx 75-90 degrees east of me). Altho these are "Detroit" stations the towers are based out of the southfield area about 15-40 miles East of me. I have no large buildings near me only mature forest preserve trees about 3-4 blocks away in that eastern direction. I have tried an indoor amplified antenna in a few positions within the house with mixed results, I get about 4-5 channels about 75% signal most of the time but my hope is with a better antenna on the roof and pointed more exactly (vs rabbit ears), I will hopefully get a bit more and better strengths. My questions come in as to what antennas should I consider and do i need a preamplifier as well, hopefully with the info given above selections might be a bit more clear, for now being winter (knowing it will look goofy) the antenna will be indoors in a high arched ceiling by a skylight, but once spring comes it will go on the roof via a mast like a satellite antenna approx 20-25 feet above ground. Thanks for any input and advice on antenna choices and preamp info if needed. Bill :) |

ANT-751 HBU-33 HD7694P Pick one up at Solid Signal, Novi, MI. http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp...nnaCraft_HBU33 It should work without a preamp. |
Thanks for the reply and I was going to use them as they are about 5 mins from me, when i wrote them I got a few replies/suggestions their first was
HD7694P with mast and amplifier and later when I wrote back their suggestion was a Winegard-HD-1080 Now I know nothing about antennas and such except to come ask for help :) But how do I tell based on these two which would be best, as far as amps go they recommended one with the 7694P is that something i can try without then add if needed? |
Reception
Simple reception situation. Tv transmissions are strong and mostly LOS Line Of Sight . Line Of Sight is the best. And the digital tv transmitters are close to your location , even better. And your location has few obstructions , even better yet. I recommend a Channel Master CM3000A antenna mounted above the roof. Here are some roof mounts , http://www.ronard.com/909911.html , http://www.ronard.com//34424560.html , http://www.ronard.com/ychim.html. Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. , http://www.channelmasterstore.com , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.amazon.com

I like the idea of the channel master 3000 omnidirectional, also looked at the winegard 2000 omnidirectional but figured they might be a sacrifice of signal trying to reach out in all directions.
If I did go with omnidirectional which unit specs wise is best the winegard 2000 or the channel master 3000 are either company better? |
