Need help getting station 45 miles away
 

Here what I can tell you. I have a hdtv with dish network right now. I'm ready to cut it off and go to antenna. I have an old antenna (have no idea how old or brand or anything else). It is pole mounted just above peak of house, so 18-20'. I pick up the local stations just fine with it, but it will not pick up the stations I want (45-69 miles away). I rotated the antenna(with the end I think is supposed to be pointed) last night to around 240-250 and still could not pick them up, but still got those other local channels just fine. I plan on running three tvs (one hd, two sd). The run on the cables would be about 35'(hd), 45' and 55'. I already have coax running, but was not sure if they would need to be replace eventually due to splitters, converter box, etc.) Thanks for any suggestions and help.

Can we guess that you are looking for KETK? If that's the case, it can probably be done with the right antenna...

I recommend a Antenna Craft U8000 antenna aimed at about 257 degrees magnetic compass. The stations in the opposite direction 58 degrees are Very Strong and will be received through the back side of the U8000. No rotor will be needed and multipul antennas will not be needed. Actually I am wanting to pick up KFXK, the tyler Fox affiliate. And KLTV would be nice because it is the Tyler ABC.

Will I need to put converter boxes on my two regular tvs, or can I get by with one?

The two stations, KFXK and KLTV will be challenges each in their own right.

Your TVFR suggests that there are two other stations on the same frequency, with KFXK, channel 31. KLTV is rather weak at your location.

I have to disagree with the U8000 solution because it's low front to back ratio will not work in your favor when trying to receive KFXK. The U8000 is designed to receive real channels 14 and higher, making it a poor choice for reception of a weak channel 7 (KLTV).

Because you have two or more sets, consider keeping the existing antenna. Add a separate antenna system cabled to each TV where an A/B switch would select between the original and new antenna systems. The new antenna system would be a UHF antenna with high front to back ratio and a high-VHF. I'm thinking Antennas Direct XG-91 pointing at 246° and a Winegard YA-1713 pointing at 271°. The output of the new antennas would be combined into a single coax using a UVSJ. The output of the UVSJ would connect to the input of a Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp if you are planning to run this antenna feed to more than one set. That would provide for two to four ports of splitter loss. Both of these are long antennas, with the performance needed to deal with a couple of challenging 'gets'.

The U8000 will be Aimed in the direction of about 257 degree magnetic compass , west. West is the direction of channel 7. Also K31HO 31 is to the east and is Very Weak and not likely to cause interference with KFXK 31. But even if it does , there is more the one Fox , there is also KMSS-DT 34 FOX. And yes 8 bay panel antennas will receive VHF channels 7 thru 13 at reduced gain. I say the U8000 will work.

If the OP is happy with the U8000 solution, I'll be happy.

My suggestion is promoted by the OP's stated goal; If the OP judges it too expensive or complicated, I'll understand.

Do you know that you need to rescan the TV set in order to see any new channels?

Yea guys, the main channel I want is fox, because they carry the cowboys vs kmss that carries saints. Thanks to both of you for your opinions. I will be weighing my options financially and making a decision soon. Towerguy, yes, i know I have to rescan. I will be working on it again this evening, to see if I can make the old antenna work before breaking down and spending money.
