Antenna help in Redmond, WA
I'm a newbie to using OTA. Here is tvfool output for our home:
http://goo.gl/DNWTM We live in a townhome and I'm pretty sure HOA will not allow any rooftop. Could someone look at the tvfool report above and give me an idea of what specific antenna's will likely work ? I'm mostly interested in ABC/CBS/NBC/FOX. Thanks Mike |

Yes you can install a roof top antenna on a town home , here is the Federal Law that over rules , HOA's , housing covenets and other regulatory bodies and any one else that will seek to prevent you for installing and using a antenna. http://www.fcc.gov/mb/facts/otard.html. This Federal Law has been in effect for 15 years. HOA's are Well Aware of this Federal Law , however they keep there mouth shut about it , so they can scam you in to thinking that you can't install and use a outside roof top antenna. They will try and scam you by saying , well Ok you can have a out side antenna but you have to put it where no one can see it - this is not the truth. Or they will say , well Ok you can have a outside antenna , but it must be very small - this is not the truth. Or they will say , well Ok you can have outside antenna but you must mount it down low - this is not the truth. Or they will make up some other not true rules.

This Federal Law is written so it is clear and easy to understand , and is written to protect you from crazy antenna haters. The rule (47C.F.R. Section 1.4000) has been in effect since October 1996 , and it Prohibits Restrictions that impair the installation , maintenance or use of antennas used to receive video programing. Notice the words -- Prohibits Restrictions .

Think clearly about this situation. Antennas are made of aluminum and plastic , is it Ok to dislike and even hate aluminum and plastic?? Do people that dislike and even hate antennas and aluminum and plastic , do these people dislike and even hate air conditioners that are on roofs?? Do these people dislike and even hate the sewer vent pipes that stick out of the tops of roofs?? Do these people dislike and even hate chimneys??

You can try one of these indoor Non amplified antennas , http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=233 , aim the indoor Non amplified antenna at about 214 true - 197 degree magnetic compass. Here is how to aim indoor tv antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html . Read and understand about , REAL Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , Virtual Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , Analog Broadcast Tv Channels , http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=695 . I suggest for a roof top tv antenna the Winegard HD7694P antenna with the Winegard HDP269 preamp. The HD7694P is a smaller antenna with a wider forward beam width for the reception of the widely spaced groups of stations to the south east and south west. Here is how to aim outdoor tv antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html . Here are places to buy tv antennas and etc. , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.starkelectronic.com , http://www.amazon.com
