Need Some Good Advice
 

Hello-

I was wondering if someone could clue me in on an antenna and preamp that would work in this location. http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...513409f980e7d2

The channels that are sought after are the cluster just NW of here.
WNIP thru WTAE. ( 340°-352° true).

The antenna would be mounted on the roof about 25' high. A 20' lead would be split to 2 TV's. 1 set would be about 20' away from the split, and the other around 60'. Also, the PBS channel and its subs in that group are VHF.

The minimum would be the Winegard HD7694P, but the 7697 would be better.

The preamp would be the Channel Master 7778 with the FM filter in (which is the default switch position) because you have some strong FM signals that might interfere with TV reception.

If the antenna is outside, the coax shield should be grounded with a grounding block that is connected to the house electrical system ground with 10 gauge copper wire for electrical safety and to reject interference. For further compliance with the electrical code (NEC), the mast should also be grounded in a similar manner to drain any buildup of static charge, but the system will not survive a direct strike.

Thank you for the info. I figured it would take a larger UHF VHF capable antenna to accomplish this but didn't really know which one to go with.

And the preamp I was considering would've turned out to have been the wrong one as I didn't take into account possible FM interference.

A Winegard DHD7697P and CM 7778 preamp are on order.

The antenna and preamp prescribed here work very good! They arrived on Thursday and a "test" setup was done in the attic on Saturday.

We're receiving 35 channels from bad to good in the attic, so once the setup is on the roof it should work great!

The cabling would be a 30' lead split to 2 sets about 50' each.

Absolutely not. Use the same one. You have very strong locals that will overload the 7777.

I wasn't considering those 4 locals and the adverse effect a more powerful preamp would have on the whole system.
My gearhead way of thinking is the more "horsepower" the better. That doesn't
necessarily apply for all things tho- including antenna preamplifiers.
