Antenna Suggestions for Butler, PA
Hello,
This is for a co-worker looking to cut the fat from the cable bill. A few years ago I came here and received a great amount of help from the community regarding antenna suggestions so here I am again hoping you can help. The plan is to put the antenna 15 ft off the ground on the roof or inside the attic. TvFool report: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...8e03e8206021d0 Ideally one antenna, that could be mounted on the roof or inside the attic, they want to point and go, no need for a rotor, and it will feed two TV's. From my past experience, I put a HBU22 in my attic and I get quite a few channels, of course my location is different and I eventually plan to move it outside but it works great so far. Thanks again for all the help and great insight this forum provides! |
Hello, Svyn:
If you aim a VHF/UHF combo antenna south at about 187 degrees magnetic, you have a good chance of getting WPGH Fox down to WTAE ABC, if there are no trees or other buildings in the way. A Winegard HD7694P would be suitable outside. If it is in the attic, the signal strength is difficult to predict because of differences in construction. Try different locations in the attic with a temporary setup and one TV before drilling any holes. If the TV has a signal strength indicator that would help. If the signals are too weak in the attic you can add a preamp like the Channel Master 7778. If that doesn't work, the antenna will have to go outside. If outside, the coax shield should be grounded with a grounding block that is connected to the house electrical system ground with 10 gauge copper wire for electrical safety and to reject interference. For further compliance with the electrical code (NEC), the mast should also be grounded in a similar manner to drain any buildup of static charge, but the system will not survive a direct strike. |
