reception help

I live in San Francisco and created the map below of channels I should be able to see; I find I can see all except NBC using a new RCA hdtv amplified antenna with rabbit ears that is near a window. The antenna faces north and directly to the east of me is the Sutro Tower (less than a mile away). Any ideas as to why NBC is not being received? Thanks, Mike

--->The Amplifier is being Over Loaded with the Over the Top Strong Signal Strength Tv Transmissions from Sutro Tower.<---

A over loaded amplifier will have odd and unusual effects on reception.

If part of the amplifier is not in the antenna , their is -->No<--> Type or Kind of Amplifier Built In The Antenna.

And All other parts of any type or kind of amplifier parts or componets are disconnected and removed.

And the Rabbit ears type antenna has No so called fine tuning knob/switch.

And and the rabbit ears antenna is a Plain Jane antenna.

Then install aim the indoor rabbit ears type antenna at about , 130 and 310 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim indoor and outdoor antennas ,

Use a Real and Actual magnetic compass to aim antenna , do not trust a , cell phone , tablet and etc. compass.

South West ~ West windows will most likely be best for reception.

When an antenna is hiding indoors, the results are unpredictable.
Try moving the antenna around, or mount one outdoors.

Because it's to your south (Mt San Bruno), you're behind a hill, KNTV is operating on a VHF channel, and your amplified antenna is probably getting swamped with all the FM from Sutro Tower which is 2.1 miles to your west (and a bit north).

Which specific model RCA antenna are you using?

Dear ADTech - the antenna model being utilized is a RCA ANT1251F; this is an amplified indoor antenna; first I tried a RCA Model ANT1400, which is non-amplified, and achieved the same results. I did not realize that the NBC signal came from San Bruno mountain, and as you stated this is on the other side of a BIG hill from my location - will any indoor antenna work or do I need an outdoor antenna? Thanks, Mike

It will take whatever it takes. Start with what you have and work up from there. My most common advice is that a rooftop antenna will almost always be expected to be more reliable than an attic or indoor location, but location experimentation is always encouraged.

The amplifier is overloaded by the close in TV and FM stations on Sutro. The Sutro TV stations don't need an amp.

If you want to try an experiment with the unamplified antenna, shorten the rabbit ears to 11 inches per side and then rescan for channel 13.

Dear Teleview here are the answers to your questions:
* it is a house similar to a row house that is 2 1/2 stories tall
* window faces north
* no patio or balcony
* roof is pitched
Based on other replies I estimate that I will need an outdoor antenna.

The Signal Strengths are Strong at your reception location.

Even so.

For improved reception install a ,

HBU11K antenna.

Above the roof in such a manner that reception is not , obstructed , impeded , blocked , by the , attic , roof , building , in the directions of , South , West , North West , North , North East , East , South East.

Aim the HBU11K antenna at about 180 degree magnetic compass direction.

A antenna system amplifier is Not required.
