opinions : attic and 100 degree tower difference
 

we have satellite but want the locals as we get Dallas network on the dish. I am getting all of the channels, but there are 2 that are about 100 degrees difference in direction. I am using a 4 bay homemade bow tie, about 15 ft off the ground in my attic, about 35 ft builder coax. some of the channels are 100% but the two extreme angle ones are 50% and 20% strength at best. here is the report . what do you guys suggest? aiming? it's abc and cbs that are coming in but sometimes

Your issues with ABC KLTV are likely due to the signal being on the high VHF band (real channels 7 - 13) and your antenna being designed for UHF only. You'll need an antenna that supports high VHF to maximize your chances at successful reception.

CBS KYTX ought to be a easy catch. What heading are you pointing? Sometimes moving the antenna a few inches physically will get it out a dead spot for a particular signal.

If I were in your situation. I would purchase an Antennas Direct DB8e. This antenna allows the UHF panels to be orientated separately. The first panel I would point to magnetic 145 (SE). The other panel I would point to magnetic 95 (ESE). This would provide you FOX, NBC, CBS and the CW.

ABC KLTV I would purchase an Antennacraft HBU11. This is a small VHF/UHF combo antenna. This though would be exclusively used for VHF and KLTV only. Orientate to magnetic heading 42 (NE).

Purchase Antennas Direct EU385CF signal combiner. DB8e to UHF input, HBU11 to VHF input. Run coax lead into home.

Test reception on one TV without coax split to any other TVs. If reception is desired, split signal test on other TVs.

I would mount this outdoors on your roof with limited obstructions such as trees, buildings etc. The clearer your pathway the better signal the antennas have to work with.

thank you for the info. I am new to all of this and that was my first antenna beside a folded dipole. I will look into those antenna's. is there another diy that would help? like a gray-hoverman?

I built a 4 bay bowtie diy years ago. The thing was outdoors and rusted to the point of being unusable. I've never fussed with any DIY antennas since.

The gray hoverman, from my recollection would be overkill. It is also a UHF only design. Which puts you back at having antenna that isn't designed for VHF (ABC). Further, that antenna is designed more for weaker signals. Not a problem you have. Your issue is multiple headings and antennas that can flex with those headings and give you the band coverage you need.

You might see someone building a Gray Hoverman to attempt Dallas for example if they had your tvfool plot.

DIY can be fun, but I've found that current antennas on the market can provide the desired reception quite well - unless you are experimenting or chasing gray shaded signals.

The C5 antenna receives the Current UHF channels 14 thru 51 , and VHF high band channels 7 thru 13.

The C5 comes with a , VHF/UHF combiner to add on a separate UHF antenna.

The combiner is not required for your reception location.

If the satellite system is active and the Tv antenna reception is being distributed by the satellite system coaxes , then I recommend connect All parts of the 10G201 preamp , Before Any satellite system components.

If one wants to build their own, there ore variants of the GH design that cover both UHF and H-VHF.
