Advice for Colorado Springs
 

I've been thinking about this for about a year and am ready to go forward. My tvfool report is:

The broadcast towers are about 20 miles from my house and I can see them from my deck. Ideally, I'd like to install the antenna in my attic because we can get some strong winds out here. My roof is typical plywood and asphalt shingle. I'd also like to distribute the signal to 6 tvs inside the house. All of my rooms are wired with rg6 cabling and wired to a centralized location in my basement. There is a 40ft rg6 line that runs from the attic directly to the basement. If necessary, I'd do roof mounted and 4 tvs.

Thoughts?

Consider a low to medium gain hi band VHF/UHF antenna. Two common models are HBU-33 and HD-7694P.

So if I get something like an hbu33, will I be able to put it in my attic or would I need something more powerful? Also, any recommendations for distributing the signal? If I go with 4 TVs can I get away with a splitter or will I need a distribution amp?

Until you try mounting your antenna in your attic, you don't know for sure if your attic is a usable reception site or a 'black hole' of reception. The HBU-33 is relatively easy to re-fold, unlike the Winegard. The Antennacraft would be my choice if I was to try attic mounting, the Winegard could be damaged if you needed to remove it from an attic.

If I knew that I was going to mount outdoors (where you will find better reception), I'd choose the Winegard antenna.

I'd try using a passive 4-way splitter such as the Ideal # 85-134. Consider performing this test, http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=13646. If the need for amplification is proven, a Channel Master CM-3410 can be added easily... Between the antenna and splitter.
