Occasional Reception problem
 

Does cloud cover affect antenna signal? I am able to pull in good signal on all my network channels on most days. However I’ve noticed that sometimes cloud cover seem to affect the signal resulting in occasional to frequent pixilation of the channel. Only seem to notice this on PBS or FOX channels. Mostly watchable but with studders and blocking. But again most of the time they're fine.
I’m using a GE (Jasco) Flat Panel Amplified TV Antenna in the attic. Using rg59 (about 40 ft) with one 2 way splitter.

Do I just need a stronger antenna, distribution amp, or what? Any suggestions appreciated.

I think that your amplified antenna is overloaded by strong signals. Consider an unamplified antenna.

As always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , have a Negative Effect on Broadcast Tv Reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own , attic , roof , building , in the directions of reception.

The Best Practice for Reliable Reception is install the antenna at a location that has the Least Amount to No Amount of Obstructions of Any Type or Kind in the directions of reception including your own , attic , roof and building.

Strangely enough if I unplug the amplifier I get no signal. However, this is a cheap antenna designed for indoor tabletop use. The amplifier is the plug-in type that came with it. I was surprised I got as good of reception as i did by originally placing in the attic.
Will consider making the antenna upgrade.

That is normal and to be expected since un-powered amplifiers usually turn into 20-30 dB attenuators.

Electrical/electronic devices require electricity to work.

Electric outlets , Batteries , Solar Panels , Etc.

Unplugging the power supply for the amplifier does not bypass the amp.

Most powered things don't work at unless they are plugged in.

Also, it's easy to mistake the external power supply for the actual amplifier. In the case of most amplified antennas, the amplifier is built into the antenna. In the majority of designs, there is no amplifier in the power supply module.
