being researching and googling trying to find information in which I am comfortable

have been reading posts here off and on..all of you seem to be above my paygrade in information

my house is wired with a direct tv dish and it works..but dont want the expense

any help will be appreciated

Your stated goals are doable. I would suggest you be prepared to place as much or more importance on the location of your antenna(s) as the choice of antenna. The antennas(s) will need to be up in the clear, unobstructed by nearby trees and buildings including yours.

I would consider using a tripod and 10' mast at the peak of the roof. However I would want to prove I had a usable signal before drilling into the roof.

Consider the combination of the Antennas Direct DB8e (UHF) + Antennacraft Y10713 (High-VHF) + RCA TVPRAMP1R (preamplifier).

Point the Y10713 at 340° (compass) to see real CH 10 & CH-13 (CBS & PBS).

Though they can be adjusted to aim in different directions, start with the DB8e panels facing the same direction. Face the array toward 330° approx. adjust both aim and panel alignment to maximize your reception.

i can "possibly" get 3 of the channels with the uhf db8e

and you think the Y10713 is strong enough (using only the theory that it does NOT cost a lot compared to other long range antennas)

i have looked at other antennas in neighborhood and they all appear to bigger versions of theY10713 looks like a "winegard" monster

about to search this forum for info on preamp's

i just like to research a lot before i invest

Install a , http://www.antennacraft.net , HBU44 antenna Above the Peak of the Roof in such a manner that the roof and building are not , obstructing , impeding , blocking , reception , in the directions of , North West , West , South East , North East.

Aim the HBU44 antenna at about 330 degree magnetic compass direction.

As Always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , have a Negative Effect on Broadcast Tv Reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and building.

The Best Practice is to install the antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and building.

The Y10713 is a 'cut-for-band' antenna. It's a specialty antenna intended for reception of High-VHF (real channels 7 through 13) only. In that role, it's the best performing product available until you step up to an industrial / commercial option. I paid less than $20 for mine recently, and am quite confident that this is the best option available when going after medium and weak strength H-VHF signals.

The DB8e is also a cut-to-band antenna, but designed for UHF, real CH-14 through CH-51. It can be adjusted for narrow forward beam or wide forward beam. The combination of the DB8e and Y10713 offer you the ability to fine tune aim more than a single antenna with multi-band coverage.

I own a TVPRAMP1R and use it in an application that has considerably stronger signals than shown in your report. I have had no overloading problems, a common problem with high gain amplifiers. About to place the order. Haven't really decided which way to go

But are both your suggestions considered the " big guns".
By that, are there any other antenna's that would be the next level for a few dollars more

I am not sure return of antennas would be an easy job, considering shipping , re ordering and etc.
