I have recently installed a Solid Signal 8-blade HDB8X antenna with pre-amp, rotor, amp, and all the recommended wiring and fittings.
When the antenna is set to ENE, on a HDTV, I am able to receive a great signal on channels 2 through 5, but ch.7 needs to be tweaked via the rotor in order to get it clearly with some occasional signal loss. In order to get ch. 13 at the ENE setting, I have to go through the TV's auto-tuning process. I'm sure there must be a simpler solution.
The installed antenna is currently set flat. Should the bays be angled? Do I have the correct antenna? Should I have gotten the Winegard HD8200U instead?

Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Goodness, no, although it *could* be used. You just don't need all that excess aluminum for low-VHF up in the air.

The glaring problem is that you have a UHF antenna and are expecting it to pick up weak high-VHF signals. 8-bay UHF antennas often pick up high-VHF at very odd angles since they are not engineered for VHF reception.

The simplest solution is to add a high-VHF antenna to the 8-bay UHF antenna. Otherwise, start over with a medium to long range high-VHF combo.

Pick your pre-amp with care. Your proximity to your local channel 8 will put some pre-amps into gain compression.

I think I understand. Would a ClearStream 5 UHF/VHF be appropriate?

You will most likely need both. I would not expect the C5's limited UHF reception to be adequate for your particular situation. You'd very likely benefit from a much stronger UHF antenna as well.

Pratical and Useful Information.
 
The Current Broadcast Tv stations/channels that are being Transmitted and Received in the , USA , Canada , Mexico , are

VHF low band channels 2 thru 6.

VHF high band channels 7 thru 13.

UHF band channels 14 thru 51.

Your location has receivable broadcast Tv stations channels in All 3 Tv bands.

To the East /North East is

KVNV Real channel 3.

WPXO-LD Real channel 4.

WKOB Real channel 2.

Recommend install a Tv antenna that receives All 3 Broadcast Tv Bands.

The HD7084P antenna also provides the extra antenna gain to receive the VHF high band channels 7 thru 13 and UHF band channels 14 thru 51.

Install a Winegard HD7084P antenna aimed at about 80 degrees magnetic compass direction.

Use a Real and Actual magnetic compass to aim antenna.

The HD7084P antenna receives All 3 Tv bands better then the HD8200U antenna.

And HD7084P antenna is smaller then the HD8200U antenna.

The reason the HD7084P receives better is because the HD7084P has more metal receiving elements in a more compact space , is provides a flatter response across all the Tv channels.

Given that you already own the UHF antenna, consider adding an Antennacraft Y10713.

If you want to try for reception of WPVI and WPXO-LD then you could try the big all channel antenna. Just have realistic expectations, there is more interference at those low frequencies and the antenna gain available is less.

What preamplifier are you using?

If I was starting from scratch, I would;
1) Seek a mounting location that's not obstructed by trees or buildings.
2) Consider an Antennas Direct DB8e or 91XG for UHF.
3) Use an Antennacraft Y10713 for H-VHF.
4) Use an RCA TVPRAMP1R preamplifier.

The size is W 4 feet x H 2.66 feet.
The HDB8x is designed to receive the UHF band.

The size is L 11 feet x W 9 feet at the back of the antenna.
The HD7084P is designed to receive All 3 Tv Bands.

What ever choice is made , a lot of antenna/antennas (Size) will be on the roof.
