which antenna should i buy
Here is my info about where I live. Which antenna would work best for me? So that I could get all or most of these channels.

What channels do you want specifically? I assume those to the NW are what you want, being the major networks are there. They're a good ways out. How's the view in that direction from the antenna site? You want as much clear view of the horizon as possible.
I'm thinking you'll be putting a large directional antenna on the roof for best performance as you'll need all the gain you can get. It has to be UHF & VHF-Hi. Something like the 7698P from Winegard would cover that with long range coverage too. |
To add to what elmo has already said, mounting the antenna where it's not blocked by trees or buildings will improve your success. The HD7698P (pointed at about 330° per a real compass) paired with an RCA TVPRAMP1R preamplifier would give you a good shot at a full lineup of programming.

Yes Elmo.... I want the channels from the north west.... there is not a tree in that direction for a good ways. I'm guessing 1/8 th of a mile. You mentioned Winegard 7698P. Where can I pick this up the cheapest? This antenna looks just like I remembered them as a child lol. Can I get something like this to work?
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Antennas...&skuId=9151687 Maybe you can help with a cheaper place to get this as well..... GroundUrMast..... You mentioned RCA TVPRAMP1R preamplifier. What would be the over all gain from using this versus not having it at all? Is it really worth buying? Thank you both for all your help.... |
First, the CS-4 is a very good UHF only antenna. If you had only UHF signals to deal with, it would be a fair to good choice. I say, 'fair to good', because you have several VHF signals available and, the signals to the NW are not very strong. The HD7698P gives you UHF and High-VHF ability and the gain needed for weak signal reception. If you Google "HD7698P", quite a few retail options come up, including Winegard Direct. Prices can change day to day.
If the antenna will feed only one TV and the total cable run is no more than 50', you may be able to forgo the preamp. But if you have two or more TV's or a longer run of cable, you're starting with modest amounts of signal power that may not be adequate to overcome the losses through cables and a splitter. |
