Upstate NY near Canadian Border
Hello all. My father-in-law has a summer place in upstate NY. I'm trying to help him with his TV reception.
He currently has a Yagi type antenna mounted about 15' up. It's right next to the TV and the distance from the antenna to the TV is not far. http://postimg.org/image/4e0ooxb1p/ When we pointed his antenna to 139 degrees we were able to pick up the top ten channels from the TVFool.com report 2.1 3.1, 3.2 5.1, 5.2 6.1 10.1 12.1 22.1, 22.2 33.1, 33.2, 33.3, 33.4 57.1, 57.2, 57.3 Then we mounted a homemade bowtie style antenna that I made following the instructions in this youtube video. With my homemade antenna we were able to get two additional channels. 15.1, 15.2 (Global Montreal - 22 degrees) 44.1 and 44.2. (Fox - 139 degrees) We also tried aiming both antennas towards Sherbrooke (85") and a couple of other public television stations in nearby Vermont to see if we could get anything else on the channel list but with no luck. My father-in-law is happy with the result because he has two more channels. But channel 5 (NBC) is still a bit sketchy, and Global 15 was hit or miss. Since my homemade antenna did a reasonable job, I'm thinking of getting an inexpensive digiwave multidirectional antenna. I also want to get an additional signal amplifier so I can put one on each antenna, and then combine the two signals into one cable. Then try pointing the Yagi and the multidirectional bowtie in different directions to get a good lock on all his favorite channels. That's the plan. What is the opinion on these cheap antennas? Is there a considerable difference between ant-7287 and ant-7293? http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...46aec34cc8d34a New/exact radar map and channel list |
The provided tvfool report says that the location is only resolved Approximately.
It is Important to have a tvfool report with the Exact/address location. Go to the tvfool home page and click on >>Start MAPS<<. Move the pointer to the Exact location of the cabin. Make the antenna height 25 feet above ground. 25 feet above ground is a reference antenna height. Click on the , Make Radar Map button. Post the new this new radar map and channel list. Do Not Delete the first radar map that says resolved approximately. |

Recommend Do Not connect 2 seperate antennas together with a reversed splitter.
Yes you can try it , however the reception resluts will not be good. Reason , antenna cross talk. The signal strengths at your location are strong signal strengths with LOS=Line Of Sight reception. Recommend install a ANT751 antenna aimed at about , 141 degree magnetic compass direction. Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html. ____________________________________ A antenna system amplifier will most likely not be required. ____________________________________ For 1 Tv connected use No splitter. For 2 Tv's connected use a simple common 2 way splitter. For 3 Tv's connected use a simple common 3 way splitter. __________________________________________ Install the ANT751 antenna above the Peak OF The Roof in such a manner that the roof and house are not blocking reception to the , North , North East , East , South East , South , South west. As always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , have a Negative effect on Broadcast Tv reception and so do buildings including your own roof and house and other obstructions. The Best Practice is to install the antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and house. ___________________________________________ As a Test to prove reception. Run a NEW Continues length of coax from the matching transformer at the antenna , through a open door or window , Direct to 1 Tv. Bypassing all couplers , spliters , and other devices. ___________________________________________ Digital Tuners can develop -Digital Glitches- that are not cleard out with simple channel scans. Do Double Rescan , http://www.dtv.gov/rescan.html. |
