Indoor HDTV Antenna, near San Francisco State U
 

Hi folks:

We recently moved my daughter into her new place in San Francisco. The neighborhood is the Park Merced complex near SFSU.

The complex specifically states that she is *not* allowed to place any antennas outside, so we are stuck with having to get an indoor only HDTV antenna. So I'm seeking recommendations on what to get for her particular location.

So far, we have tried both a Philips Amplified Antenna MANT510 with poor results (missing most networks, low reception on the rest), as well as an RCA ANT1650R antenna that we picked up at Radio Shack. We moved that one around all around trying to get a strong signal, but most of the channels that we tuned in had blocking/tiling issues and couldn't hold a good signal steady. Both of these antennas were amplified...could that be part of the problem?

Many people seem to be really hot on the Mohu Leaf Indoor Antenna, the non-amplified version. I've also heard that the Terk HDTVi might be a good choice. Then again, I've heard Winegard and Channel Master, as well as "building your own" antenna. Kind of stumped at this point. Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks!

Absolutely. On cannot use an amplifier in the presence of signals that hot.

The location of your daughter's room will have much to do with whether or not an antenna will serve well. If her room faces Mts Sutro and San Bruno, it should work. If her room is on the opposite side of the building, then it will be hit or miss.

Try a simple, non-amplifed loop and rabbit ears.

The reception signal strengths are Very Strong Signal Strengths.

The 2 Main Groups of Tv stations are to the , North East and South East.

Do Not use any type or kind of amplified antenna.

Zip , Zero , Zilch , Non.

A Terk HDTVi is a Non Amplified Antenna.

Aim the HDTVi antenna at about 60 degree magnetic compass direction.

As a first choice.

Place the TERK HDTVi in/at a East facing window and run a coax to the Tv.

A glass patio/balcony door is also a window.

Can also place HDTVi antenna in/at , North East or South East facing window.

It is best not have any close buildings or big trees to the , North East , East , South East , because obstructs reception.

What is the building construction??

Wood Frame with wood or vinyl siding has the least amount of obstruction to reception.

Concrete , concrete blocks , bricks , rocks , metal siding , metal roof , metal beams , metal doors , metal backed insulation , stucko Wire .

The inside of buildings and attics Are Not a reception friendly environment and Never Will Be a reception friendly environment.

Reasons:

Multi-path/reflections signals bouncing all around.

Absorbing reception.

Blocking reception.
