For antenna height the deciding Tv station is W43BO 15 FOX. At a height of 10 feet the NM is minus -12.1 , not good . At a height of 30 feet the NM is minus - 7.1 , better . At a height of 60 feet the NM is minus - 2.5 , much better. . WKPT 27 ABC stays at minus -19 NM at all 3 heights , not good but thats what there is. I am thinking that antenna heights of 50 to 60 feet are good heights for reception. Ok I recommend a Winegard HD 7084P with a Winegard AP8275 preamp pointed at 230 magnetic compass and a AntennasDirect 91 XG with a Winegard AP4800 preamp pointed at 141 magnetic compass. This is 2 separate antenna systems , the 2 separate antenna systems will not be connected together at the same time on to one coax. There will be a Remote Control A/B antenna switch at each Tv location , so as to switch antenna A and B to the Tv. .. Here are places to buy antennas and etc.. http://www.3starinc.com , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.amazon.com , http://www.starkelectronic.com . . With this system there is signal strength for 3 Tv's.

OK, enough is enough! John, if you are going to give practical advice, then you need to check the path profiles. Cosmo is facing a very challenging situation, as he has to rely on scattering from tall terrain obstructions in the way. Going up to 100 feet is not going to materially change anything.
Cosmo, I seriously doubt you will be able to get all the major networks. ABC will definitely be a no go, and the translator that would bring you Fox will be iffy. John's recommendations are probably the best you can do under the circumstances, but realize the following: The 7084P will get you NBC and the independent reliably, and CBS with drop outs. The 91XG will be for PBS and Fox, and reception will have drop outs. At 20 feet, 40 feet, or 100 feet, the answer will still be the same. It's up to you if you want to spend that kind of money for results that will be less than you hoped for. |
NBC and CBS
How high would I need to go for NBC and CBS? I have an AntennaCraft Y5-2-6 Lowband-Broadband VHF Yagi TV Antenna. (Unmounted) Would it be worth using?
Thanks Cosmo |

I have recommendations, just like everybody else :) .
Cosmo, your antenna is good only for RF channels 2 through 6, so it would work only for the NBC station (and would work well - why not go ahead and put it up?). You would have to get a second antenna for the CBS station, like a Winegard YA-1713 or an AntennaCraft Y10-7-13 and combine the two with a HLSJ coupler. Results for the CBS station cannot be guaranteed for the reasons I cited before. You should try to install your antennas as high as possible, doing your best to clear local obstructions. Tilting the front of the antenna up a few degress would help, too. |
TV Antennas and Reception
You can install the Winegard HD7084P antenna and AP8275 preamp , put the antenna on the roof , point the antenna at about 230 magnetic compass and watch the channels in that direction. If later decide you will like better reception you raise the antenna height. And at a later date if you will like to try for W43BO 15 FOX you can do what I have suggested.

John, take a look at his path profiles! This is a very challenging situation, and success is far from guaranteed.
