Antenna recommendation for close towers? (i.e. 3 miles)
 

I'd like an antenna recommendation for the following TVfool results:

The closest channels are my only real requirement (i.e. the 3 mile distance ones). It would be nice to receive the next closest channels (i.e. "ION") but that seems a bit too expensive or difficult.

For now the antenna will go on the first floor of the house, but will eventually move to the basement (on my component shelves, etc).

The Mohu "Paper Thin" antenna seems popular. What do you guys think?

EDIT: I should mention that I also have a Winegard HD7082-P that I will eventually mount inside the attic so I guess I just need a short-term solution...

As a short term solution that receives the first five Digital Tv stations/channels of the tvfool Current Plus Pending Applications Included channel list , the Tv stations in the Green reception zone.

Install a TERK HDTVi ( not HDTVa) antenna on the first floor.

In/at a window that is toward the , north east , is better for reception.

Aim the HDTVi at about , 58 degree magnetic compass direction , here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Basements are Not Good for reception with a Tv antenna in the basement.

Run a loooong coax from a antenna that is above ground to the Tv in the basement.

The Digital Tv stations channels that are in the Red reception zone will not be received with the - Short term solution HDTVi antenna.

Here are the Digital Tv channels in the Red reception zone.

W16CO-D REAL UHF Digital channel 16 , virtual number (x.1) Religion.

WSBW-DT REAL UHF Digital channel 31 , virtual number (38.1-2) CW and Me-Tv.

WBPH-TV REAL VHF Digital channel 09 , virtual number (60.1) Religion.

WQPX-DT REAL UHF Digital channel 32 , virtual number (64.1-2-3) ION and QUBO and ION Life.

W43CO-D REAL UHF Digital channel 43 , virtual number (x.1) Religion.

Start with the HD7082P antenna in the attic and then move to above the roof for better reception.

Aim the HD7082P antenna at about 40 degree magnetic compass direction.

As always , trees and tree leaves do a real good job of , reflecting , reducing , blocking , Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and house.

It is best to install the HD7082P antenna above the roof in such a manner that there is little obstructions to no obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and house.

The Tvs Must Channel Scan for the , Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , often named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital tv's will automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv setup menu and select , 'Air Channels / 'Antenna Channels'.

I initially bought Leaf antenna and I got channels from 11 miles away. I eventually returned it as I wanted more range, but Leaf should work for you. I believe that Leaf has a 35 mile range.

When I do put my Winegard 7082-P in my attic, what are the chances of my receiving my local stations (WNEP, WVIA, etc) and ION (the further ones at a slightly different angle)?

The 'chances' are good for reception in the attic.

Is it possible for good reception to happen in the attic??

Yes it is.

However that does not mean that the attic is a friendly reception environment.

The -->ONLY WAY<-- to find out for sure is put the HD7082P antenna in the attic.

Don't confuse popular as being good for you. (Besides, people are obsessed with the word "thin" as being good.) You have two good VHF stations, NBC 11 and CBS 13. The Moho is UHF only, so you won't get those stations. Put the Winegard in the attic and let us know how it does. Just be ready to tune it. That means rescan for antenna channels on the TV, then check signal strengths. Adjust as necessary.
