Antenna Recommendation
Hi All,
Would somebody please advise if I would even be able to pick channels up? Here is my report: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...cc491406e35db2 I don't currently have any OTA system setup. What equipment would work the best? Thanks! |
Yes , NBC , ABC , CBS , PBS , FOX , The CW , MyNetwork , This Tv , Me-Tv , and more are receivable.
Is this a , house , town home , condo , mobile home , motor home , or etc.?? What directions do windows face?? What directions do patios / balconies face?? What floor?? How many floors?? What is the top floor?? How many Tv's are/will be connected?? |

You'll get the best results by mounting outside in the clear. An Antennas Direct DB4e facing 115° per a compass would be my starting point.
If you wanted to see the signal from KLTV you could add a High-VHF antenna such as the Winegard YA1713 or Antennacraft Y10713. Pointed toward 217°. The second antenna would provide a second ABC feed as well as 'Bounce' and 'Telemundo' on the second and third sub-channels. You can join the two antennas with a UVSJ (UHF/VHF Signal Joiner). Whether you opt for just the DB4e or a two antenna system, an Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamplifier would help insure you have a strong signal at both TVs after it travels through the coax and splitter. If you go with a two antenna system, install the outdoor preamp module close to the antennas, on the output of the UVSJ. |
Will either of these options work in the attic? I would rather not mount outside unless absolutely necessary.
The winegard must have a better range than the DB4e ? |
I looked into this more and think I understand your recommendation. The Winegard is in addition to the Db4e since it is mainly for VHF stations?

As always , attics Are Not a reception friendly environment and Never Will Be a reception friendly environment.
For reception of the listed Digital Tv channels. Yes you can start with a Antennas Direct DB4e antenna with a Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp in the attic. Aim the DB4e at about 114 degree magnetic compass direction , here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html. If you are missing the reception of the Weak Digital Tv stations channels , KSHV MyNetwork , KLTS PBS , KPXJ CW and Me-Tv , with the antenna in the attic. Move the antenna and preamp to above the roof. The DB4e will be mounted above the roof in such a manner that the roof and house is not blocking reception to the , south east. ___________________________________________ For 1 Tv connected use no splitter. For 2 Tv's connected use a , HFS-2D , 2 way splitter. For 3 Tv's connected use a , HFS-3D , 3 way splitter. Buy the HFS splitters at , http://www.hollandelectronics.com , or , http://www.solidsignal.com. __________________________________________ Here are csome antenna mounts for above the roof , http://www.ronard.com/909911.com , http://www.ronard.com/34424560.html , http://www.ronard.com/ychim.html , http://www.ronard.com. Buy the ronard antenna mounts at solidsignal by typing the word ronard in the solidsignal search box. Here are some places to buy antennas and ect. , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.amazon.com. _________ As always trees and tree leaves do a real fine job of reducing or blocking Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own house. It is best to install a antenna at a location that has little to no obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception in cluding your own house. The Tv's Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna. DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels. |

Got the db4e mounted on the old satellite pole today. 14 channels all crystal clear! I was surprised. It's even using the existing cable run for the sat which is at least 50+ft with no amp.
Thanks for all the advice and help! |
All of the sudden I am unable to receive the fox station kbss-dt, 31-1. Any ideas what might be going on? I checked the antenna's position and it's the only station I have lost.

Digital tuners can develop - Digital Glitches - that are not cleared out with a simple channel scan.
Try a Double Channel Rescan. http://www.dtv.gov/rescan.html. Can also call the Station , chat with Engineering department , transmitter might be not working or some changes for some reason. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KMSS-TV. |

Any chance you noted signal strength prior to it dropping? Are you getting any amt of signal now - checked on the TV's signal meter? What direction is the antenna pointed? If it was borderline, atmospheric changes like weather can affect it. |
Yes 33.1 is what I meant.
The signal was 85% last time I checked on most channels and it's pointed at 115 degrees. The only other thing I can think of was switching out the splitter. Is it possible this would filter out the station? |
