Need help choosing
I am new to the idea and am looking to buy my first antenna. It will be mounted on the roof of my single story house, in the spot where my satellite used to be so I can utilize existing cabling. My report from tvfool looks like this:
http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...99006f7feff27f I am interested in picking up some of the Sacramento stations that include KCRA and KOVR. I live in Hughson, California about 60 miles away. Just looking for some suggestions of a specific model antenna that would work well. Thanks in advance for any help! |
Tv Reception.
A simple reception situation.
Above the roof install a Winegard HD7000R antenna aimed at about 330 degree magnetic compass. Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html. For 1 Tv connected use no splitter. For 2 Tv's connected use a simple common 2 way splitter. For 3 Tv's connected use a simple common 3 way splitter. Here are some above the roof antenna mounts , http://www.ronard.com/909911.html , http://www.ronard.com/34424560.html , http://www.ronard.com/ychim.html , http://www.ronard.com. Buy the ronard antenna mounts at solidsignal by typing the word ronard in the solidsignal search box. Here are places to by antennas and etc. , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.winegarddirect.com , http://www.amazon.com. The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the Broadcast Tv Channels sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna. DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels. |
Thanks for the help Teleview. Looking at this model, it states the range as 40 miles. Is that going to be sufficient to reach Sacramento stations that are 60 miles away?

Your question is quite understandable, and quite common. Mileage estimates are the product of the marketing department and based on who knows what generalization and assumptions.
TV Fool estimates the strength of each available signal using the known values of the transmitting antenna performance, transmitter power, antenna heights and terrain between the transmitter and receiving location. The result is far more specific to your conditions than any ad copy could hope to be. Reputable vendors provide performance data from their engineering department for their antennas that allow us to calculate the final receiving system performance. http://www.tvfool.com/index.php?opti...57#how_to_read http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=109 |
Tv Reception.
The Tv stations signal strengths are strong and the Tv transmission and reception is LOS = Line Of Sight , The best type and kind Tv transmission and reception.
_______________ I expect that some Tv stations will also be received from the opposite direction on the back side of the HD7000R antenna. How bout that?? |
