Seeking antenna advice

I'm seeking advice for an antenna setup. My tvfool report is here.

I have an existing DirecTv dish (which I'll remove) 9 ft from the ground, on the east wall of my house. I thought that it would be a good location for an antenna, and I can get to it. However, I can also put it on an attic dormer a floor higher if need-be.

The northeast-east corner of my house has no nearby obstructions, however I am not quite at the bottom of a glacial dip, meaning there are steep hills east and west of me. Cell services is somewhat of a challenge.

I hope this information helps. I'll be grateful for whatever advice you can give. I am not looking to get every channel possible, but just some basic channel coverage.

TIA.

You appear to have an easy shot at the major network affiliates as well as some 'extras'.

You'll do best if your antenna mounting location has a clear view of Queen Anne Hill and Capitol Hill. You no doubt see the three tall towers on top of QAH (KOMO, KING & KIRO) and a similar group of towers on CH (KCTS, KSTW & KZJO)... point the antenna to the NE (split the aim between QAH & CH).

The RCA ANT-751 is a great option, It's compact and can be mounted from the satellite dish 'J-pole' if that location has the view needed. Another very capable option is the C2-V by Antennas Direct.

A Simple reception situation.

The Digital Broadcast Tv transmitters are less the 5 miles distance and are LOS = Line Of Sight.

Many , Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels will be received.

Above the top of the roof in such a manner that reception is not blocked by the roof or house in the directions of , north west , north , north east.

Install a ANT751 antenna with - No preamp - aimed at about 0 degree magnetic compass direction , North.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html

The ANT751 comes with a J type antenna mount.

For 1 Tv connected use No splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a simple common 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a simple common 3 way splitter.

As always , trees and tree leaves do a good job of , reflecting , reducing , blocking , Digital Broadcast Tv Reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and house.

It is best to install the ANT751 at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and house.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , often named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv's will automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv setup menu and select , 'Air Channels' / 'Antenna Channels'.

Thank you so much for your reply. It's clear, even to a neophyte like me. I'll check out the antenna options.

I can see a thin sliver of downtown from a north-facing dormer, which is, I think, that NE split you mention. I'll report back my experience in case it's of interest.

Thanks, again.
