Combining a UHF/VHF Hi Antenna with VHF Lo
 

Trying to find a way to combine something like the HBU 55 with the Y5-2-6 antenna without the 3.5 db insertion loss.

Any suggestions?

Why not use an HLSJ? Insertion loss is around 0.5 db.

That is, indeed, the proper way to do it.

Read a review here that seems to suggest this may not work.

Has anyone actually tried this? I am about to try hooking up an HBU 22 to one side and then the other and see how my signals are impacted. Don't have the VHF Lo antenna out at this time since it is not needed at my present location. Will be relocating in the not too distant future where I intend to use a VHF Lo antenna.

It sounds like that reviewer was either confused about the reviewed item (ZUVSJ probably) or lacked the technical skills to make a proper assessment.

Yup. As a matter of fact I purchased a couple. Just tried it by routing the HBU 22 into the VHF Hi side. Works fine with UHF as well. No real signal loss. Tried the Channel Vision HS-3 for comparison's sake that and resulted in several lost channels. Lose a lot of signal gain with that splitter/combiner.

Yup. Does seem to work fine as just mentioned. Will add a VHF Lo to the Lo side when the time comes and I relocate.

It's actually a Dish Network triplexer, I have the dipole on the first spot and I've tried the other antenna on the 2nd and third spot.

I also tries a Radio Shack Splitter combiner with less luck. Radio Shack also has a UHF/VHS diplexer that I was going to try. Good to see Radio Shack back in business.

The Dish triplexer is absolutely the wrong device for this project.

The "new" Radio Shack will be vastly different from the old. Once existing inventory in the remaining stores is sold, you likely won't find anywhere near what they once carried for OTA, if anything at all.

The 15-2586 is also absolutely the wrong device for this particular project.

I purchased the Blonder Tongue ZUVSJ. Got two for next to nothing.

If you want to combine a 7-69 antenna with a 2-6 antenna, you need the ZHLSJ, not the ZUVSJ.

If you use the UVSJ, then you end up with a device that combines 2-13 on the VHF port with channels 14-up on the UHF port which is not what you said you needed.

Just checked the combiner. It is the ZHLSJ on each one. I typed the wrong part number but actually ordered the correct combiner.
