We bought an Antennas Direct Clearstream 4 ultra long range antenna (65+ mile range) and tried to get some reception by setting it in the attic and hooking it to the cable TV cable that's run up there to our 4 TVs in the house. We got a super snowy picture of 1 remote religion channel and that was it. We tried hooking it up right next to the TV in our family room with the same result. Could it be the Utah mountains between us and the transmitters preventing signals? What else could we try?

It sounds as if your TV's are either set to "Cable" mode, and / or lack digital tuners.

If the sets have digital tuners, you'll need to use the set-up menu to change the tuner to "Air" or "Antenna" mode, then scan for channels.

Your TVFool report indicates the CS4 should do well for you. (Unless the roof is metal or covered with heavy wet snow)

Be absolutely certain that no cable company signal is connected to the antenna. If you connect an antenna to the cable company signal, you'll cause interference to aircraft, police, fire and other life safety services.

Your location has Many , as in MANY easy to receive LOS = Line Of Sight Digital Tv Channels that are Strong signals in the green reception zone. Aim the antenna at about 298 degree magnetic compass. The tv or tv's need to scan for Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , sometimes called the 'Air Channels' or ' Antenna Channels' because the tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna. Do Not scan for cable tv channels. There must be NO active cable tv channels or cable internet net service or cable phone service on the coaxes that are being used for the tv antenna reception.

If the attic is wood frame with plywood top and standard non metal particle composition shingles and there is not a Deep Load of snow on the roof then reception will be very good . If however the roof is a metal roof or has metal foil backed insulation then reception will be reduced or blocked.

Yes the CS4 is the correct antenna for you location. All of the Real channels in the green zone are the UHF channels and that is what the CS4 is designed to receive. The 4 loops of the CS4 is what is aimed at the tv stations. The screen behind the loops is a reflector screen that reflects more signal to the loops.

Provide the makes and model numbers of the Tv's and I will find then on the internet and look in the manuals and see if the Tv's have , ATSC Digital Broadcast Tv Tuners.
