Help in Simpsonville, SC
 

Hey all,

So I've read some threads already about this issue but wanted to see if I could get some feedback about my situation specifically.

I'm in Simpsonville, SC and the only channel I have trouble getting that I care about is ABC broadcast by WLOS (which is a problem station mentioned here many times).

I bought an antenna last fall as a "proof of concept" idea combined with some streaming options. Bought this thing here, but willing to do better if need b.: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I've tried in the attic and out a second floor window, but once the tree leaves come in ABC is gone until fall. Any antenna suggestions or feedback would be appreciated.

WLOS is 13.1 virtual and 13 real. The antenna specs do not include channel 13...

I would have guessed this was an error, but this seems to be a common spec.

I also went to his provided link to Amazon. That is an interesting spec- 1 through 12 and 14 through 69. That kind of ignorance and neglect on the part of the manufacturer goes right along with 150 mile claim.

There's an antenna expert who's famous saying is "nobody gets sued over misrepresentation of antenna specs". Obviously that's why they do it.

At any rate I don't think that's the antenna that can get the job done. He needs a real antenna with a real amp. The station looks very weak and far away

Those channel specs look strange because they're not North American channel numbers, they're Chinese or Asian. The marketers of that stuff don't have enough savvy to convert the specs....

WLOS is going to be difficult because it's very weak (it's only about 7000 watts in your direction) and it's distant at over 50 miles. You're going to have to put some significant metal up in the air to get it reliably and you're still going to need to be concerned with potential sources of interference (FM radio, local electrical noise, etc) causing issues that are impossible to see until you run into them.

Did you ever get it when there were no leaves?

Here is an FM signal report based on an estimate of your location that shows some strong FM signals that might interfere with reception of WLOS.

Your antenna has a single low-gain element for VHF-High signals (real channels 7-13) that is not very good for WLOS and tries to make up for it by using an internal high gain preamp that is easily overloaded by stronger signals.

I get pretty reliably during winter and fall even with the current antenna. Some distortion. But within the last month I can't get it at all. Any antenna suggestions that may work for my area?

A different antenna would probably do better, but the trees would be a problem for it too.

Where are you planning to mount the antenna?

Can you try your test antenna in another location not blocked by trees?

Can you show us a picture of the trees from the antenna location when aimed at WLOS at 331 degrees magnetic?
