Help with antenna choice
 

I'm picking this out for my father. No large buildings around and this will be mounted 15ft. high.

Please don't waste your money on a piece of flimsy plastic that will fall apart in short order. Anyone claiming reception range in excess of 100 miles should be presumed to be engaged in false or misleading advertising until trustworthy evidence is made available.

Any of the reputable antenna brands 4-bay UHF panel antenna would be a good choice. Most will cost less, all will perform better and last longer.

U4000, DB-4, DB-4e, CS4, CM-4221 or HD4400.

Now why not a antenna with VHF also? Because this location is close enough for rabbit ears?

tvfool lists both the Real digital tv channels and the (Virt) digital tv channels. The REAL Digital Tv Channel is the channel that is being broadcast , the Virtual channel is in most cases is the , Legacy Analog Tv Channel , that the tv station broadcast on before the switch to digital. The Virtual channel is not a real channel , it's just a number for you to look at. All the real digital tv channels at your location are UHF digital channels , in the , green , yellow and pink/red reception zones. Aim the antenna at about 240 degree magnetic compass. Looking at your TV Fool report I see two very weak signals on real VHF channels, WKRC, real CH-12 and WLIO, real CH-8 that may be receivable if you are willing to work hard at it... However, there are CBS and NBC affiliates much higher on the list, much easier to receive.

All of the stations shown on your report in the green, yellow and red groups are broadcast on real UHF channels.

If your father would like to hunt for DX (weak, distant) signals we can suggest a different antenna system.

Kind of disappointed, I hooked this up a DB-4e at his house and it didn’t pull in any more channels than his small antenna on top of his TV. But, I just tried it real quick inside the house next to the TV and I did a rescan. I hope he gets more channels when I mount it outside properly.

Building construction can reflect and attenuate signals a great deal. Please don't give up without placing the antenna in a location free of obstructions. Outdoors is almost always a better location than indoors or in an attic.

I'm not giving up! I just figured it would pull in more stations over his cheap amplified unit trying it out temporarily.
