ATSC 3.0 does anyone know how many subs can fit on a single channel frequency?

I have been looking around a bit and find a lot of information on the physical layer and that 2 channels can be bonded to exploit new features...

But I have not found details on what we can expect as to
how many channels can fit on a channel frequency.

such as today you can fit a number of 1080 720 and then more 480p subs on the same channel frequency... and with 4k to be introduced I was wondering how much that will eat.

I am actually in the process of converting my archive of dvrd shows from
h264 to h265 so I understand the new codec will save 40% or more in data

Are we expected to see about the same number but the resolution will increase?

can 4k even support sub channels at that data rate...

thanks :D

thats really helpful rabbit... ...... hmmm

Just looking for info on how many sub channels will fit on a single real channel and what resolutions will be available and how that effects the number of channels that will fit on a real channel...

Maybe I should call samsung in south korea... well that would mean I would need to learn korean first.. that shouldn't take long.. hmmm

Bear in mind that HVEC Codec is up to FOUR TIMES more Efficient than current MPEG2 Codec...hence a single ATSC 3.0 Transmitter could EASILY Broadcast ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and FOUR MORE HD Channels at the SAME Time....as long as they remained in their current 1080i or 720p format.....OR 3-4+ Networks when the major Networks eventually upgrade to "4K" UDTV resolution....which is probably still 2-4 years away...

ATSC 3.0's New HVEC Encoder is 3-4 times more Efficient than ATSC 1.0's MPEG2. Hence a 19.8 Mbps Data Stream could carry 3-4 times as many HD and SD programs with the SAME PQ (although ATSC 3.0 is capable of slightly higher Data Rate, let's assume the excess was allocated to OTHER Data Streams).

i hope its more

more would be good

As long as it's not more of the same. Then OTA would be just like cable or dish, 500 channels and still noting but bad re-runs to watch.

A bit dated already, but this article seems relevant: https://hdguru.com/new-broadcast-tv-...e-coming-soon/

There's no one answer as each station can opt for one of several data rates. Many groups have talked about data rates if 25 MB/s. That might let a station do 3-4 1080 HD signals, several SD sub channels, and an SD mobile service.

I believe that few stations will opt for 4K, as it's hard to see much difference, especially if the camera uses a 4K sensor and down converted to 1080.
