Help with 4 bay antenna singal needed
 
I bought 2 4 bay antennas to ru to 2 tv,s ....the problem is if i turn the antenna towards toronto i pick up toronto,s stations fine,but lose buffalo,s and vise versa...heres my question if i point 1 antenna towards toronto and 1 toward,s bufflo can i run them into a splitter then connect it to my tv??each antenna has its own connection,but it seems i need to point each antenna towards buffalo or toronto to get both singals.....

please help


my antenna is - eaglestar pro model 53-6303 uhf antenna.

Combining two antennas with a common splitter may work. In most situations, the result is less than hoped for.

The up-side is; It won't hurt anything to try. If it works, it's cheap and you get to brag to all your friends.

The down side; You may loose some channels or make them unreliable.

If it fails, consider using an A/B switch.

A roof top Channelmaster CM3016 all channel antenna pointed at Toronto and a Channelmaster 2020HD 7 thru 69 channel antenna pointed at Buffalo. The CM3016 will have a 2 way splitter and the CM2020 will have a 2 way splitter. The input of one of the 2 way splitters will be connected to the CM3016 and the input of the other 2 way splitter will be connected to the 2020HD. The outputs of the 2 way splitters will go to both Tv's and are connected to , remote control A/B antenna switch at the Tv's. The Tv stations in Canada are changing to Digital Tv transmission NOW. And are transmitting Digital Tv NOW. After the August 31 2011 point of reference date , Canada will have a Mix of Digital Tv transmitters and Analog Tv transmitters.

ok i tryed the splitter and it worked fine thanks....except city tv is a little fuzzy..is the anything i could get to boost singals,also if i wanted to run it to 2 tv,s.

Consider yourself fortunate. By combining two identical antennas, you have reduced the signal power from each by more than 50% which may result in weaker analog signals appearing noisier (snow). You are also receiving reflected signals via the opposing antenna which will contribute to ghosting on analog channels.

The most reliable method of reducing snow and ghosting is to use one antenna with high gain and directional sensitivity. For valid reasons, you have chosen to do the exact opposite, you have built a low gain, less directional antenna system. Compromise is often needed when building a working antenna system.

As Canada transitions from analog to digital, you may see everything get better... CITY-DT (real channel 53) appears on your report but may or may not be on the air yet. If you have problems receiving new digital stations as they come on line, be prepared to revisit the need for A/B switching or a rotator. In an all digital environment you may also consider the use of network attached tuners.

To distribute to multiple sets, I would recommend trying a passive splitter with the exact number of ports needed to serve all active sets. If you loose some signals due to the splitter loss, add a distribution amplifier such as the PCT-MA2-M, AKA Channel Master CM-3410. Amplifiers overcome loss after the antenna, they don't fix ghosting or signals mixed with noise.

Rule of thumb: One amplifier/preamp can be too many, two amplifiers are too many.

The next steps to try would be:
  1. Connect only the SE facing antenna. Then check to see if WNLO (real CH-32) is received.
  2. Connect only the NW facing antenna. Then check the reception of CITY (real CH-57).
If one or both problem channels are improved, you may need to reconsider the use of a reversed splitter. As I mentioned earlier, " In most situations, the result is less than hoped for." A/B switching is technically sound, and likely the least expensive option to consider next.
