Are these low numbers worth a try?
 

Hi to everyone. I've been reading this site for a long time trying to learn. I'm in the corn belt, flat farm land. I'm fed up with Mediacom.
I'm considering an XG91, DB8e or HD4228 antenna simply based on what I've read. I'm thinking a PA 18 preamp. I suspect a rotor is necessary, but there seems to be a lack of quality as to what brand is the wise choice. My limit is height. I have to have a roof mounted antenna on a two story. 25 to 30 feet is about as high as I can go. This is my first post, so hopefully I'm entering correctly. Any suggestions, comments, or information is appreciated. BTW,I know the VHF channels 9 and 10 are on the list, but I'm not especially interested in 10. I may add WILL VHF in the future, provided there would be a real chance it would work. Do I Have a chance with these distances and low numbers at receiving anything?

Make the antenna height above ground in the tvfool report 25 feet above ground.

is good. I'd suggest that.
Adding a rotor introduces additional problems. Difficult to manage if you are driving multiple TVs.
You have to rescan for channels every time you rotate.

Thank you. I had a little trouble posting. I'm using one TV. The reason I'm asking about the rotator is I was wanting the Champaign and Decatur stations. They are southeast. Those Peoria stations have so many infomercials they are annoying. I thought I might have an alternative when this happens. WCIA is more of the local station for news and local programs. I'm just looking into options. I believe that preamp is at our Walmart. Do you think WCIA and WAND are also doable? I'm in the FCC contour mmap circle by about block. I just want to get a good idea before I buy this weekend. Thanks again for helping me out.

The only way to tell is to try. Those stations are going to be a boarderline case. Awfuly low noise margins.
Were it me, I'd go with just the antenna to start & aim it at them to see what happens, for a test.
You can always add the rotor later.

Some TVs allow you to ADD channels, VS a complete rescan.
I.E. Sony Bravia.
