Do I have a Chance to receive OTA

Hello,

I checked out my chart and it seemed promising.
http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...46aee238bf78f6

I tried building an antenna but got zero reception in several places around the house. I'm willing to purchase an antenna and mount in the attic or even on the roof, but I have a few considerations. First is the metal roof which I know gives poor cell phone reception. Next, is a utility transfer yard of some sort less than 100 yards west of my house.

Do I have a chance? Or, is giving in to cable my only option?

Thanks,

Despite a couple of possible hindrances, you have a very good opportunity to get reliable reception.

Did you verify your tuner is ATSC/8VSB capable? (Check the specifications in the user manual, which should be fairly easy to find online with a make/model number search.)

Did you set it to 'Air' or 'Antenna' mode, then scan for channels?

Though there are DIY antenna designs that would work in your situation, a simple UHF only antenna is not up to the task. A GH4n or larger would be a viable DIY design to consider if you are intent on building your own. http://clients.teksavvy.com/~nickm/gh_n_uV.html

If you want to consider a factory built antenna, I'd suggest a Winegard HD-7694P pointed at about 5° per a compass.

As Always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , in the directions of reception have a Negative Effect on Broadcast Tv reception.

Here are some and not all of the Negative Effects.

Absorbing , Blocking , Reception.

Multi-Path Reflecting Tv signals bouncing around.

And so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and house.

The Best Practice is to install the antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and house.
