Looking at options

My wife and I are longtime DishNetwork customers and are huge sports fans so it will be hard to "cut the cable" for us. However, here in Eastern NC, it seems like there is a constant battle between the local network channels and DishNetwork with the results being that we are constantly having them shut off for periods of time. With that in mind, and knowing that the OTA quality will probably be better anyway, I want to try my hand at an antenna.

After doing some research I came across this site and learned a lot so I'm ready to get some advice as to what I would need for an antenna. To start with it'll probably be attic mounted, however I do intend to mount it outdoors once the weather gets a little better and I get the equipment I need to do it with. We're just looking to get the major networks right now, ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox. Here's my TV Fool results, I appreciate the help you guys give everyone and look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Oh, just as an addendum, some of the antennas I've looked at are the Channel Master 2018 and 2020, the Winegard HD7694p and the Antennacraft HBU22 and HBU33. Hopefully that gives you some idea of what I'm looking for.

I recommend the , http://www.antennacraft.net HBU33 antenna.

Aimed at about 16 degree magnetic compass direction , here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Use a Real and Actual magnetic compass to aim antenna.

--------

Signal strengths at your location are strong to moderate.

A antenna system amplifier will most likely not be required.

For reception of the , Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels in the , Digital Current Plus Pending Applications Channel List down to and including , WNCT-TV Real VHF channel 10 , virtual number (9.1) , CBS

--------

For 1 Tv connected use No splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a , Holland Electronics , HFS-2D , 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a , Holland Electronics , HFS-3D , 3 way splitter.

www.solidsignal.com or www.hollandelectronics.com

-----------

Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. .

www.solidsignal.com

www.amazon.com

www.antennacraft.net

www.hollandelectronics.com

---------

Recommend Test reception buy connecting a single continues run of coax from the antenna direct to 1 Tv , no couplers , no splitters , no amplifiers , no etc. .

-------

The Tv Must Channel Scan for the , OTA=Over The Air , Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels , often named the ~ DTV Channels ~ Broadcast Channels ~ Antenna Channels ~ Air Channels ~ in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some digital tv's will Automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Digital Tv Setup Menu and select ~ DTV Channels ~ Broadcast Channels ~ Antenna Channels ~ Air Channels ~.

Scan for channels.

Thanks for the information teleview, I appreciate it, looking at your recommendations I see no problems with that solution as I have a pretty clear shot of the sky in that direction and the antenna you recommend is one of the ones I was looking at anyway. I've already checked the menu in my tv for DTV channel scanning and it was easy to differentiate between it and cable tv scanning so no problems there.

If you will like to also receive , RTV Retro Tv Network , then I recommend install the HBU33 antenna above the Peak of the Roof in such a manner that the roof and building are not , obstructing , impeding , blocking , reception in the directions of , North North East , South , South West , North West.

Aim the HBU33 antenna at about , 231 degree magnetic compass direction.

For the reception of , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWAY-TV.

The HBU33 antenna above the roof and aimed at WWAY , will also receive the groups of Tv stations to the , North North East and WPXU to the South.

Reason:

Directional antennas such as and not limited to HBU33 , receive the best at the front of the antenna , a little less at front angles to the antenna , less at back angles to the antenna and less at the back of the antenna.

The Tv stations to the , North North East and WPXU to the South are Strong to Moderate Signal Strength and will be receive even though the antenna is not aimed directly at them if the antenna is above the roof.

WWAY is Weak signal strength , has 2 edge obstructions , and is 62.3 miles away , so the antenna will be required to aim at WWAY.

If you will like to discover what Networks and more Practical and Useful and Interesting Information , the Digital Broadcast Tv stations are transmitting , here is the way I do it.

In the , google , or , yahoo , search box , type in , variations of the tv station call sign. wway , wway tv , wway-tv , wway dt , wway-dt and etc. .

The 2 web sites that will be found that have a lot of Practical and Useful Information are , wikipedia and http://www.rabbitears.info
