Antenna Recommendations in Luray, VA

I am looking to purchase a TV antenna for my house and was curious about what might be a good antenna for my area. Also, what type of equipment may improve my experience as well.

Slim pickings.

How motivated are you? This will not be easy and the results will not be particularly predictable.

Welcome, Luke:

Right, slim pickings, and in different directions.

WHSV will give you ABC, CBS, MyN, and Me-TV

W30CT will give you NBC and CW

WSVF will give you Fox and CBS

PBS and ION will be a little more difficult.

I suggest a Winegard HD7694P antenna aimed at about 245 degrees magnetic to also add PBS on 21 or 11.

If ION is important to you, that would require a separate antenna aimed in a different direction.

As ADTech implied, this might require some experimentation; it's probably not going to work right out of the box.

What channels are most important to you?

Where will the antenna be located?

Are there any trees or buildings in the signal path from the SW?

As long as I can get Fox, NBC, CBS, and ABC I am good. I have been away from my house most of the day and now it is to dark to see to the SW. As far as experimentation goes I love the challenge.

As far as experimentation goes I love the challenge.

If the antenna is outside, the coax shield should be grounded with a grounding block that is connected to the house electrical system ground with 10 gauge copper wire for electrical safety and to reject interference. For further compliance with the electrical code (NEC), the mast should also be grounded in a similar manner to drain any buildup of static charge which will tend to discourage a strike, but the system will not survive a direct strike.
