A little help needed in the Northwest

Hey everyone. Any ideas and help is appreciated. My antenna experience ranges from zip to bubkas but after talking to a friend of mine i got a little curious.

Maybe someone can explain to me whats possible in my location and what i need to buy to receive like fox cbs and the rest.

Ive got an ATSC hd tv and theres no reason why an antenna couldnt be placed on the rooftop about 15-20 feet above ground.

Thank you in advance, hope my threads not too stupid :)

There are two possibilities at your location.

1. Pick up all the translators and LPTV stations. That would take a cheap UHF only antenna (DB-2) and no preamp. Aim it at 65 °. The cost may be attractive, but you may not get everything in HD, it depends on the specifics of those transmitters.

2. Go for the Portland stations directly. That would take a Winegard HD 7698P with an AP-8700 preamp. Aim the antenna at 167°. There may be a few dropouts during odd weather events.

KNMT is the weakest station that you can expect to pick up reliably. It's not worth trying to pick up the stations on channel 6 and lower.

Aim at 48 degree magnetic compass with the indoor antennas shown here , aim means broadside to the metal antenna receiving elements . http://goodtimeportland.com . MTN , Mountain West Sports Network transmitter is at 335 magnetic compass. One of these simple antennas will receive the local translator stations http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=233 . Here is a question for Willson2010. Is K34HK Analog tv channel UHF 34 transmitting MTN now? And I see in the Pending Applications Included that MTN has approval with the FCC Federal Communications Commission to transmit Digital on UHF channel 38. The way to tell analog from digital is , analog will have a poor quality picture , ghosts , lines , dots , fuzzy. Digital is 100 % clear.
