Strap Mount question

The sizes of chimney strap mounts all seem to be 12' or 18', pretty long,
can these be cut down to fit a smaller chimney, like this?

I have always been wary of mounting to a chimney, but that's just me.

They can be shortened w/ the clips where the straps fold over inside and are crimped.
Be sure to make your measurements w/ the bolts loosened as much as possible while still protruding all the way through the nuts.
Try to get the 3 corners bent in the correct spot and level on the first try before tightening.
Be sure not to over tighten to the point where the brackets start to bow.

It's preferable to the only other viable option of attaching a tripod, which I actually already have, to the roof. The antennas are feather light I don't think a 10' stub mast on a 5' fixed + rotor will stress the chimney too much. I guess I will have to mess with it I don't really understand how the straps connect to the clips.

They should be like a banding strap. Push through the clip, fold back over itself and secure w/ the two tabs.
I have not heard of many people having a problem w/ chimney mount, but once was enough for me.

Biggest problem with a chimney mount is the chimney.

An old one with weak and deteriorated mortar can get blown over in a storm from the wind load on a big antenna setup.

As long as the chimney is in good shape should be fine.

Another thing that just hit me, are the two lengths of pipe that you mentioned.
I would not use any lengths of pipe above the rotor, greater than needed for clearance.

10' is within the suggested maximum length in the rotor manual, which is a few inches more, I would like to go higher for clearance but...

Keep the length of the stub mast above the rotor as short as you can, the bearings in the drive unit will live a lot longer. Elevate the whole drive unit instead.

I could put the 10' bottom but its going to make it difficult to mount alone w/o falling off the roof, I'm only 5' 7", plus I'm planing on combining the HDB91X (top) DB4E below what should be the spacing?

Just did a chimney mount on a 2 story house, my 32' ladder was barely tall enough.

Next one I do I'm going to rent one of those bucket lifts on a trailer. It's $150 for half day, but beats falling off the roof!
