OTA Reception in 03819 (Danville, NH)
I guess it's time to get serious. I discovered OTA during a week long power outage. We put up an antenna bought for camping and found a dozen channels -- which actually looked better than cable. Putting an XG91 (UHF; north/south) and a DB8 (VHF; Northwest) in my attic, I am able to get 20 channels reliably. WMUR isn't one of them.
I think the DB8 should pick this channel up, but I typically get a signal strength of zero. What don't I understand about this channel? My house is orientated north south and the XG91 is just west of due south near the south wall of the house. The DB8 points just north of east at the north wall. The antenna sits about 35 feet off the ground. My house is on a hill but surrounded (within a hundred feet on all sides) by red pines. I get 78 signal strength (per my DTVPal DVR) on WENH which is another NH VHF station. http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...60b578adea61a9 |
Did you say the DB8 was for VHF? Is this the antenna?
http://www.antennasdirect.com/store/DB8_HD_Antenna.html WMUR CH9 might be too low for this UHF antenna. The other VHF station you mentioned, WENH is ch11, higher in frequency, has a stronger signal than WMUR and is being picked by by the XG91 if I understand your antenna positions correctly. Antenna located in the attic doesn't help either. |

Get a Y5-7-13, aim it at 283°, and add it to the UHF antenna(s) using a UVSJ. |
So, one of these Y5-7-13 for uhf. The the uvsj the best solution for combining the signals? I'm currently using a cm-7777.

Tv Antennas and Reception
How many tv's are/will be connected??
|
five TVs connected. I'm using a CM-7777 and an EDA 2800. The cabe is RG6 -- all home runs from the basement. so, antennas to cm-7777 to EDA 2800 to DTVPal DVR to TV.
|
OK. I thought db8 was good for vhf too. is the best way to couple the signals a UVSJ or can I use my cm-7777?

I recommend give a Channel Master CM3000A antenna a try. The CM3000A has it's own built in amplifier so do not use the CM7777. Please note that omnidirectional antennas may need to be turned to find a sweet spot for best reception and then tighten the clamps.

I just ordered a Y5-7-13. I'll try replacing the db8 with that and see how things go. The two antennas are separated by 20 feet. should they also be at different heights?

thank you all. i'll followup once i get the new antenna installed.

The Y5-7-13 arrived. There is no coax connector -- just a couple screw terminals. I guess I need a 300-75ohm transformer. Are these a commodity? Is the cm94444 good?
|
Yes, they're a commodity item. You can pick them up at retail stores.
The 94444 is pretty good. You can probably find one branded as a Magnavox locally that okay enough to work for you. Missed that fine print that said the matching transformer had to be ordered separately, eh? |
didn't even look for it. rookie mistake ;-)
|
I love you guys. WMUR is great at 83-85 and WENH hovers around 93. Thank you.
