Question with Built in Tuners?
Finally cutting the cable and finally bought the
Winegard FL6550A FlatWave Air (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I was decided on this one due to the size and easy to install as compared to the Winegard HD8200U (Even though i know this would be better). Anyway hooked it up and ran a Channel Search on my Vizio Flat Screen and Wow 38 Channels. Which Shocked me. Here is my report----> http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...e1c6edb13c2190 However i do live on top of the Mountain as well so.. i know that will help but was still shocked. So Here is my question i get 38 channels with the Built in Tuner on my Flat Screen Vizio; However, when i use my Sanyo Flat Screen which is newer i only get 12 channels and When i hook it up to my 2007 Viore (Parts are Samsung) DLP i get 34 channels. Even though i am going to a HTPC setup and use HDhomerun or something like that. wanted to run this by you guys and see why this is and which Tuner you have used that worked the best? |
The FlatWave is certainly easier to mount than an HD8200U. However, it is far less directional and therefor leaves you open to a higher chance of having trouble with multipath interference, co-channel interference and adjacent channel interference.
Some tuners are better at dealing with marginal signal quality than others, as your experience illustrates. The solution may seem to lie with the selection of tuner, but I submit that the problem starts at the antenna. My personal experience with the HDHR tuners has been very good. They are occasionally beat by my Vizio tuner but not by much. http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=820 |
The one Vizio tv I have does have a better tuner than any of my samsungs do.

I would think that the one that pulled in the most stations would have the best tuner.
Unless they're being tested on the same run of coax though, I really couldn't say for sure. |
