Needing advice on antenna for my location.
 

I want to get maximum channels with one antenna. Roof mounting is ok. I have to have wrex and pbs kids. I have an installer that did my direct tv willing to install antenna (I do not like heights unless in airplane). Here is my location I put it at 25feet. I want to connect to 8 tv's in the future. Right now 5 tv's will be fine to start.

Amend what I said in private message.

Do not install preamp for Chicago initially. Instead, install distribution amp. The Channel Master CM3418 8-Port Distribution Amp is what you'll need. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002M1EPL0/...ter_B00C9UJLOU.

Also if WREX is mandatory. I suggest a two antenna system. In addition to the DB8 pointed to magnetic 120 as already suggested, purchase a HBU11. http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?p=HBU11&ss=29222. Orientate to magnetic 262. The HBU11 will be a dedicated high-VHF antenna for WREX.

You will need a signal combiner. The Antennas Direct EU385CF-1s is a quality unit. http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp...CF-1S&ss=29223. Input DB8 coax into UHF input, then input HBU11 coax to VHF input. Run single lead of coax indoors to distribution amplifier.

This will give you Chicago and WREX.

An option if reception for Chicago if WTTW is unreliable may be the RCA TVPRAMP1R as mentioned privately installed AFTER the signal combiner, however, I'd prefer to suggest a system without it for starters. Adding double amplification can be a tricky game.

In place of the DB8 , install a Antennas Direct DB8e.

Aim 1 panel of the DB8e antenna at 245 degree magnetic compass direction.

Aim the other panel at about 120 degree magnetic compass direction.

Thank you very much for the reply. I was hoping the 4 tv's that are hooked with directv right now could be swapped with free had from roof antenna without running new wires. Stephanie would that be doable?

As a general rule, if the satellite installer used RG6 coax you should be able to reuse it.

I would examine what you have. Hopefully you have the initial run of coax that came inside off the dish into some sort of splitter. Then split the 4 ways to different TVs. Get rid of all the satellite splitters. Install your channel master distribution amp in its place. Only keep the coax. You should be fine. If there is any question, talk to your installer about this.

Don't reuse the J-pole mount for the sat dish either. Since you are going to be using a DB8 and a HBU11. You need a chimney mount or tripod mount on your roof.
