Attic Install: Going from 8 bay to Uni-directional???

Hi everyone,

I'm still having trouble with NBC cutting in and out with my 8 bay attic install. I'm pointing at around 180 degrees magnetic.

Here is my TV Fool output: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...8e034532caf2f1

What would you think about getting a uni-directional antenna like the 91XG (http://www.amazon.ca/Antennas-Direct...onal+antenna)? This would be for an attic install.

As of now with the 8 bay, I'm getting NBC almost all the time but it will be in and out at times.

Thanks!

Since the majority of your signal is getting absorbed and/ or bounced around, your results, are pretty unpredictable.

I would also guess, that a 91XG, will not perform as well on those peripheral stations, as it will be focusing more directly.

The 8-Bay is probably about as directional as a 91XG. You didn't identify the specific one in use, so it's not possible to do an actual comparison.

The NBC station on your plot is indicated as too weak for an attic location. You really need to get it outside and up in the air if you expect to improve your reception chances.

Thanks for the replies, my antenna is the Digiwave ANT7285.

Okay, previous comments are all applicable.

FWIW, all the published "specifications" for that antenna regarding gain and beamwidth are bogus. All of the North American sellers have copied the laughable Chinese manufacturer's "specifications" which were done by some clown who didn't know what he was doing.

Thanks so much for your replies. Ok, so if was to mount an antenna on the roof (about 30 feet up), what would your thoughts be around installing something like this: http://www.shop.ca/c/island-eagle-st...6165v-24669434

I'm asking about this particular antenna because many people in the neighbourhood have this attached to their roof. Does antennas direct have something like this?

Many thanks.

That antenna is being imported by a local (to you) business and sold locally. There are no verifiable specifications so it's expected performance is unknown. It is extremely unlikely to be a better performer on UHF which is where your reported issue is at.

I'd simply move you existing antenna out of the attic and up in the air to a location where it has a good line of sight to the Buffalo stations.

So after messing around with the 8 bay in my attic dozens of times, the antenna was so destroyed that I ditched it. I did end up with an outdoor install of this weird Island Eagle Antenna: http://www.shop.ca/c/island-eagle-st...6165v-24669434

I checked last night and with just a 10db distribution amplifier before the splitter I got 58 channels!!!

Thanks so much for your help everyone.
