Suggested antennas for my location

I am looking for a quality HD antenna. Geoselector suggested Winegard HD8200U. Interesting choice as I had a preference for either a Channel Master CM4221 or CM4228.

The Winegard and the CM4228 have more range but are very directional that a rotor is probably likely.

I am planning to have the antenna placed about 15 ft above ground, lower than the surrounding homes, but no large trees around.

I ran the TVFool tool and here are the results.

Any suggestions are welcome. :)

If the house is constructed of wood with wood or vinyl siding and no metal backed insulation then reception of the Canada digital tv stations are easy. Aim a NON Amplified indoor antenna at about 50 degree magnetic compass. Here are two indoor antennas that are NON Amplified , Channel Master CM4010 and Trek HDTVi <-- notice the ( i ) the HDTVi is a NON Amplified indoor antenna , DO NOT buy the HDTVa amplified antenna. Here is how to aim indoor antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html. The indoor antenna must be on ground floor or higher , Not in a basement.

For reception of these American digital tv stations/channels , WNLO , WNED , WIVB , WKBW , WUTV , WNYO . A Winegard HD7698P antenna Will Be installed above the roof and aimed at about 148 degree magnetic compass. Here is how to aim outdoor roof top antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html. Here are some Strong and Sturdy above the roof antenna mounts , http://www.ronard.com/909911.html , http://www.ronard.com/34424560.html , http://www.ronard.com/ychim.html , http://www.ronard.com . The indoor antenna will be close to the location of the tv. And the coax from the outside roof top antenna will be at the location of the tv. The indoor antenna will be connected to one input of a Remote control A/B antenna switch , the coax that is connected to the outside roof top HD7698P antenna will be connected to the other input of the Remote control A/B antenna switch and the output of the Remote control A/B antenna switch is connected to the tv. Buy the Remote control A/B antenna switch at , http://www.saveandreplay.com

The homes to the south of me are of part-brick and part-siding construction. Not much space between homes.

My plan was to implement the mast from the satellite an install an outdoor antenna, about halfway up brick wall or 15 feet max in height.

I already tried a $50 Terk indoor antenna that did not bring in even one channel with clarity. The one TV I have is on first floor level.

It sounds I may have to mount antenna higher, preference is to have a wall mount with antenna about a couple feet over the roof.

I am surprised about the Winegard recommendation, since other sites I local OTA sites I visit recommend and what is in the neighbourhood are generally Channel masters.

The Winegard HD7698P antenna is a -> Heavy Duty <-> Long Lasting <-> Long Reception Range <->Outside Roof Top Antenna. The HD7698P antenna Will Be mounted no less then 3 feet above the high point of the roof and higher is better if you choose to get reliable reception of the American channels. I recommend a STRONG and STURDY antenna mount , having 200 dollars plus of antennas fall over because of a weak antenna mount is real close to zero fun.

When the tv is scanning for Canada or American digital broadcast tv channels the tv needs to scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , sometimes called the 'air channels'. Not cable tv channels.

Went to a electronics place and was told Channel Master and Winegard antenna are the same, owned by same company. I can get a CM4221 for $50 or a CM4228 for $100, someone in my neighbourhood advised that he gets all american channels with a CM4221 mounted on wall.

Thanks for the input.

Regarding a convertor, I have a rear projection HD ready, with no HDMI inputs,
but with Y/Pb/Pr Component video (480i, 720P,1080i) inputs.

That said, according to the CM7001 convertor specs, Y/Pb/Pr inputs does enable Analog HD quality.

Is this any better quality than the signal with a standard Digital to Analog convertor at more half the price?

You can choose to get closer to the truth about Winegard and Channel Master by calling the companies , you can also choose to go to company web sites , read about companies histories and present day ownership. You can choose to find out what channels does the neighbor define as all the American channels. And Yes you can choose to install the same antenna/s that your neighbors have. http://www.channelmasterstore.com , has a newer updated box then the CM7001 that does more and has more connections. http://www.saveandreplay.com , has the newer CM box. If you choose to provide a make and model number of the tv , I can choose or not choose research the tv and recommend a hook up that will display the best picture. I chose a long time ago to find and evaluate All and More of the information web sites and company and sales web sites that you get your information from and the research continues.
