As always , Attics ARE NOT a reception friendly environment , and Never Will Be a reception friendly environment.

The signals of ,

WIVB-DT 39.

WKBW-DT 38.

WBBZ-TV 7.

Are far to weak of signal strength to be received reliably with a antenna in the attic.

It won't happen.

Even with a -->Big Antenna<-- above the roof with nothing blocking reception.

Reception may or may not be reliable.

WIVB-DT 39 , is 95.5 miles distant.

WKBW-DT 38 , is 96.9 miles distant.

WBBZ-TV 7 , is 98 miles distant.

Add to that the Canada Digital Tv stations are strong signal strength and very close to the direction of the weak signal strength USA Digital stations , 28 degree magnetic compass.

Makes the use of a preamp border line to overload of the preamp.

If you will like to try for reception ,

Above The Roof install a Winegard HD7698P antenna with and without a Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp aimed at about 158 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Some common roof mounts are , tripod antenna mount , eave antenna mount , chimney antenna mount.

Here are places to buy antennas and etc. , http://www.saveandreplay.com , http://www.trentondistributors.com.

As always trees and tree leaves do a real fine job of reducing or blocking reception and so do buildings and other obstructions.

It is best to install the antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception.

The Tv Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or '
Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Hi teleview,

Thanks for the reply. I have heard that wingard AP-8700 does not overload the strong signals. It only amplifies the weak signals. May I use this instead of antenna direct preamp you suggested. Please advise.

I use eagle star antenna($40) with kitztech preamp(earlier I used DB8 but i never got these many channels with that). I think kitztech preamp is making me loose weak channels.

With my current setup in the attic I can get following channels with antenna facing 160 degrees.

Reliable Channels
19-TVO
41- Global
9- CTV
20(5.1)-CBC
25- Global(French)
47-Omni 1
40- Omni 2
44(57.1)- Citytv
11(11.1)- CHCH
10(10.1) - CTV 2 (from the back of the antenna)
32(23.1)
14(29.1 and 29.2)- Fox

Not 100% reliable. I do get them but loose them in bad weather.
33(2.1,2.2) NBC
38(7.1) ABC
43(17.1,17.2,17.3) PBS
39(4.1) CBS
49(49.1) - Myn ( I get this occasionaly but quite regulkarlly on cold days)

Thanks in advance.

The AP8700 preamp amplifies ALL The Tv Channels not just the weak ones.

If you have a Kitz Tech antenna booster then try that in place of the CPA-19 preamp.

You can try whatever antenna you like Outside of the Attic as recommendation for reception.

ALL the rest of the recommendations are the same.

Attics ARE NOT a Friendly environment for Tv reception.

Attics Reduce the Signal Strength. Attics Cause Multipath (reflected signals).

I have made my recommendation for a antenna Outside of the Attic.

Install the antenna in a way that the least amount to no amount of obstructions in the direction of reception.

You can try the Kitz Tech antenna booster with the HD7698P antenna.

Hi,

I have another home made loop antenna for VHF. But it receives UHF channels too. My existing antena is receiving ch10 (3.1) from its back. I want to use loop antenna for this channel. I have tested it and it gives me excellent signal. How can I merge this antenna with my existing setup. Unluckily jointennas are no more manufactured by channel master. My research shows that i need to gang these antennas making sure the cable length will be exact for both antennas before the joiner. I may be wrong. Please advise.
