Another Rural Install

I live in a somewhat rural area with a good many trees. I bought a stock Antenna's Direct DB4 before I did much research (game was coming on). My methods for using this antenna aren't all that honed, so I would be interested in what I can actually expect from this particular antenna, but also what other options I should look at if I turn to another antenna.
Spent the last three hours reading various posts on here and I greatly appreciate y'alls knowledge and willingness to help.

ALL questions and answers about broadcast tv reception and More.

The following is a Teleview recommendation for broadcast Tv reception.

Antenna system # 1.

Above the roof aim the DB4 with a Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp at about 200 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

For 1 Tv connected use no splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a , HFS-2D , 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a , HFS-3D , 3 way splitter.

Buy the HFS splitters at , http://www.hollandelectronics.com , or , http://www.solidsignal.com.

If , WFSA NBC , WCOV FOX , WBMM CW and ABC , WGIQ PBS , WIYC Weather Nation , are received , then you are good to go for those directions.

If WFSA-DT - NBC that is on real VHF channel 12 is not received with the DB4 antenna , then add a Antennas Direct C5 , VHF antenna aimed at about 228 degree magnetic compass direction. The C5 Vhf antenna comes with a combiner that connects the DB4 and C5 together on to one down lead. the CPA-19 preamp is connected to the output of the combiner.

Above the roof install a Winegard HD7698P antenna with a Winegard AP8700 preamp , aimed at about 110 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

For 1 Tv connected do not use a splitter.

For 2 Tv,s connected use a , HFS-2D , 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a , HFS-3D , 3 way splitter.

Buy the HFS splitters at , http://www.hollandelectronics.com , or , http://www.solidsignal.com

Antenna systems 1 and 2 are not connected together on to the same coax.

The 2 separate coax and antenna systems go to the locations of the Tv/s and are connected to a A/B antenna coax switch , http://www.radioshack.com , #15-1968 , or , http://www.mcmelectronics.com , #34-4425 .

Here are places to buy antennas and etc , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.amazon.com , http://www.winegarddirect.com.

As always , trees and tree leaves do a real fine job of reducing or blocking Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions.

It is best to install the antennas at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions in the directions of reception.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the Broadcast Tv Channels , sometimes named the 'Air Channels or ' Antenna channels' in the Tv set up menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

This 2 antenna systems set up is Channel Surfing Friendly , press the button on the hand held remote control , change antenna systems , and keep on channel surfing.

Another way to do it is to use a antenna rotator , antenna rotators are not channel surfing friendly , must wait for antenna to rotate.
And not every one in the house will agree on where the antenna is pointed.

Simple, effective DTV reception solutions.

Use the DB4 that you have. Add an Antenncraft Y5 7-13 high VHF antenna on the same mast with 18" of seperation between the antennas (less than $25) and use a Winegard AP 2870 amplifier. This has seperate U/V inputs and will combind the two antennas into one output.

Use a Eagel Aspen Roto 100 rotor. This rotor will run off of the signal coax provided you use the recommended amplifier and follow the manufactures instructions for single wire configuration.

When installing, aim the antenna and rotor to magnetic North and you can use the rotor display to aim to the magnetic locations of all of your stations.

You will receive more stations more reliably with this configuration.
