KAIL Fail

I visited my friend in Fresno and helped him with his TV.

KAIL = Channel 7

They are now on both the RF channel 7, and the virtual channel 7.1.

53 isn't used anymore. Please remove the erroneous "53.1" from the database.

Interesting that KAIL is one of the few stations to go "backwards" from UHF to VHF, when they underwent the digital transition. Perhaps, since Fresno is flat and wide, they needed a VHF frequency in order to get the maximum possible range. My friend's "local" stations are 68 miles away and they all come in great!

KAIL is using virtual channel 7.1 in violation of FCC regulations. They are supposed to identify as channel 53.1. The FCC has cracked down on other violators - unless they've chosen to ignore KAIL, it will only be a matter of time before they force KAIL to use the correct virtual channel.

I've been told KAIL has obtained an exception, though I've never heard that first hand.

And the FCC database still lists their virtual channel as 53.

I've never found a "virtual channel" field in the FCC database, which I have imported into RabbitEars, though a part of it does list "analog channel."

I'm not sure if it's listed as such in the CDBS database, but on the station search page, that is how it is titled:
