Antenna Purchase?

Dished the dish, cut the cable. I've never had an antenna, but I'm ready to make a purchase. Amazon.com has plenty with high marks, but I need a little more direction. Here's some info form the house I just purchased.

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...1dda06c720562c

1. The house is a story and a half (cape cod) with aluminum siding.
2. Location is 50 miles West of Detroit
3. There seems to be an amplifier in the basement w/power
4. Cable runs from the basement-->outside, up the downspout and back not the attic.

Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

((Coax and connectors that are open and not connected to any thing outside , are suspect of being water damaged and Bad.

Also All outside connections are suspect of being bad. Inspect All outside connections and coax.

It is best to use the coax that has the Compression type connectors on the ends of the coax , not the Old crimp type connectors on the ends of the coax.

Make sure all connections are snug tight.

To make double sure that water does not get into outside connections , wrap all outside connections and coax with , Coaxseal , http://www.coaxseal.com.

Wrapping a bad connection and bad coax with coaxseal , Will Not make a bad connection and coax , good.))

As always, trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , do a good job of , reducing , multipath/reflecting , blocking , OTA=Over The Air , Digital Broadcast Tv Reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and house.

It is best to install the HD7698P antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and house.

_________

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels , often named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv Setup Menu because the TVv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv's will Automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select , 'Air Channels' / 'Antenna Channels'.

What you are , aiming for (kind of a pun) , is the Large Group of Digital Tv stations/channels to the , east south east.

Looking at the tvfool Pending Applications Included Digital channel list.

Looking down the channel list from the top to the bottom.

If weak signal strength , Canada Digital Tv station , CICO-DT Digital UHF channel 32 , TVO.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TVOntario , is received then that is very good.
___________

WHTV Digital UHF channel 34 , virtual number (x) , MyNetwork.

WLNS-TV Digital UHF channel 36 , virtual number , (6.1) CBS.

Are very strong signal strength at your location and will be received through the back and back angle of the HD7698P antenna.

_______________

The Best Practice is.

Each time a splitter split takes place the signal is reduced.

Use the splitter that has the number of output ports that is the number of Tv's that are connected.

For 1 Tv connected use No splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a 3 way splitter.

_______________

Try reception without the Electroline distribution amplifier.

CICO is the , target , Weak Signal Strength Digital Tv station to receive.

If CICO is not received , then install the distribution amplifier.

(((( Please note , If the distribution amplifier is not being used , then the distribution amplifier -->Must Be Completely Disconnected<--.

Unplug it and remove/disconnect All coax cables. ))))
