Suggestions for Antenna

Hello everyone. I'm in need of some advice on gear. Just looking for access to Ch 6, 13, 11 if possible. Anything else would be a bonus. I'm also in an extremely windy area, so I'll need some rather beefy gear & mount. My report:

The VHF signals call for a Winegard HD5030, http://www.winegarddirect.com/viewit...0%29&p=HD-5030 pointed at about 300°.

To add PBS and an independent station (KSAS, Fox & Antenna TV network), point an Antennas Direct 91XG or DB8E at about 5°. You can merge the UHF and VHF antennas into a single coax with a UVSJ, http://www.antennasdirect.com/store/..._combiner.html A CPA-19 preamp would be helpful if you have 50' or more cable run or need to split to more than one TV.

A BIG Winegard HD5030 is Not Required to receive the VHF Digital Tv stations channels to the north west.

For reception of.

KBSD-DT Digital VHF channel 6 , CBS and Weather Service.

KUPK-DT Digital VHF channel 13 , ABC and MeTv.

KSNG VHF Digital channel 11 , NBC and Telemundo.

And KDCK-DT UHF channel 21 PBS is a repeater Digital Tv station of KSWK-DT REAL VHF channel 8 , virtual number (3.1) , PBS.

So no requirement to receive the very weak signal of channel 8 with a big antenna.

A much smaller VHF antenna will receive the Digital VHF Tv stations/channels to the north west.

Install a Antenna Craft CS600 VHF antenna aimed at about 299 degree magnetic compass direction.

To receive the Digital UHF Tv stations/channels.

KSAS-LP UHF channel 29 , FOX and Antenna Tv.

KDCK-DT UHF channel 21 , PBS.

And a New Digital Tv station , KDGL-LD UHF Digital channel 32.

Install a Channel Master CM4228HD UHF antenna aimed at about 0 degree magnetic compass direction.

Connect the CS600 and CM4228HD antennas together with a UHF/VHF combiner , Antennas Direct model , EU385CF-1s

The CS600 is connected to the VHF connection of the combiner.

The CM4228HD is connected to the UHF connection of the combiner.

The remaining connection of the UHF/VHF combiner is connected to a Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp.

I would agree with teleview.

I have installed an antenna for a friend north of Fowler in southwest Ford county. I used a rather weak VHF antenna for 6, 11, and 13. . Then a moderate UHF pointed directly towards Dodge City. Further south you might need a larger UHF antenna at your location.

Funny thing is that the Allegiance head end in Meade is receiving Fox and PBS from Dodge City.

With a double antenna setup you should get: CBS, KWCH weather, NBC, Telemundo (Spanish), ABC, MeTV, Fox, Antenna TV, PBS (main), PBS (create), PBS (world), RTV, TuffTV, AMGTV, PBJ, TheWak, and on KDGL 23-6 ocassionally special programs like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas specials and local sports and events.

So 17 different channels in all.

Unfortunaly I can not recommend an installer close. The only one close is in Liberal, but that is not their main line of work. Maybe there is someone in Dodge City? I am not aware of one there.

Thanks to all of you for suggestions. It looks like two antennas is the consensus, with variations in the particular models. My concern at this point would be how well any of the models suggested will withstand the extreme wind conditions we have around here. While I might get by with a cheaper / smaller unit in terms of signal, I'd rather not have to replace it every month due to damage or loss. So, how's the build quality of say the CS600 when pitted against gusts up to 60+ mph?

The CS600 is well constructed and is a small antenna so not much wind loading.

I know of CS600's that up and working for several years.

The CM4228HD is a Strong and Sturdy antenna.

I don't think the wind will be that much of a problem out here. Just as long as you use a good tripod on the roof or some sort of antenna mast firmly anchored.

The biggest problem that I have is with ice on the lower VHF elements. It starts collecting on them and eventually if you get enough, it is enough to weigh them down and bend them up a bit. Last time that happened I just straightened them back out and it is still up there. Doesn't look the prettiest, but it still works.. I still get Channel 6 (CBS) and Channel 8 (PBS) .. which are the 2 hardest for me since 6 is Northeast and 8 is Northwest of me here.
