Newbie questions - Montreal, QC area

Hi All!
Reading a lot about OTA lately and I have a good idea how it works, but still not an expert!
So I'm located in Montreal, South-West near Atwater market. So I ran this tv signals analysis http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...2df944d78c1b70 at 25 feet above ground level (I may be able to go up to 30 feet, but ran it at 25 feet to be on the safe side), and here are my questions:

1- I found on the forum someone asking about the best antenna for near station, and the answer is to go with ANT751, so will this apply for my case?
I found this antenna is a good fit for the size and price.

2- Also from the tv signal analysis, to get the most out of number of channel I have few angle to consider, 340, 165 and 115. Let's say if I want to get only 1 antennas I should aim it at 340, but if I want to get also the other angle I need an antenna for each of them?
I'm good with the idea to get 2 antennas, so what is my best bet, to point on 340 and 165? Does it works this way?

3- That brings me another questions, If I use 2 antennas, I just want 1 cable to go in my TV, so do I need a multiplexer to mix the signal in 1 cable? If so, what so I use...

4- I guess I don't need any amplifier, but should I be concerned about the signal being too strong?

So far, those are the most important questions, but I may ask more later on my way to setup stuff

A Simple reception situation.

Remove the reflector screen from a , Antennas Direct , Clear Stream 2 Complete VHF/UHF antenna , http://www.antennasdirect.com/store/...VHF-Combo.html , and the CS2 Complete will receive Digital Tv stations/channels at the front and back of the antenna.

Aim either side of the CS2 Complete antenna at about 165 degree magnetic compass direction and the CS2 Complete antenna will receive the digital Tv stations/channels to the , north east , east , south east , south west , north west.

For 1 Tv connected use no splitter , no antenna amplifier.

For 2 Tv's connected use a common simple 2 way splitter , no antenna amplifier.

For 3 or 4 Tv's connected use a Channel Master CM3414 distribution amplifier.

Canada and USA Tv stations will be received in the tvfool channel list down to and including WVNY-DT 13 ABC.

Common roof top antenna mounts are , tripod mount , eave mount , chimney mount.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Do not channel scan for cable tv channels.

As always , trees and tree leaves do a real fine job of reducing or blocking Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions.

It is best to install the antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception.

The way you look at it, yes indeed it is a simple reception situation!

I find it on amazon.ca -> http://www.amazon.ca/Antennas-Direct...8842050&sr=8-1 But is it the same? It looks a little different on pictures!

Anyway, I thought it was a better price, but it is for the antenna only, nothing else! So I think the best place to get it is from antennasdirect.com

You said to remove the reflector screen... not sure of what you are talking about.. the square metal mesh on the back?

To aim about 165 degree I just have to use a magnetic compass? And does the precision is important? Do I need to use a power level meter to get the most of it?

I'm going to use 2 TV, and will probably use the actual splitter I have.

My roof looks like this http://www.dreamstime.com/royalty-fr...k-image6418007, with a brick wall on the side, so I'm thinking using something like this http://www.amazon.com/Winegard-SW-00...na+gable+mount fixed on the brick and having a mast of 5-10 feet high. What do you think, is there better way?

Another thing, I found that there is also a C4 version of this antenna... Should this be a better reception? Or I will gain nothing more then using a C2 version.

Note: I may check if there is installers available around Montreal, because it may be hard to do it myself... If someone can refer me a good installer it will be appreciated.

The reflector screen is Not the Loops.

It is the metal mesh screen the is behind the loops.

The CS2 Complete is not the plain CS2 UHF only antenna.

The CS2 Complete VHF/UHF antenna has the metal VHF reception rods at the top of the antenna for reception of VHF channels 7 thru 13.

The mounting/installation location is your choice , The antenna must clear the roof and not be blocked by any part of the roof.

That is what I was thinking, so I will remove the metal mesh screen, which probably block signals

That is what was looking different on the picture... Good to know!

If shopping on Amazon, use Model "C2-V-CJM" as your search string. This is a new version that just started shipping in the last six weeks.

Notable differences between it and the ClearStream 2 Complete we have been selling for the last year are:

1) Coax cable is not included in the SKU, purchase amount needed separately.
2) The reflector grid is now riveted onto the vertical support and will require drilling to remove the reflector. It may be areattached with standard #10 hardware, if required.
3) The function of the UVSJ, previously a separate device mounted to the reflector, is now integrated into the loop assembly along with the UHF balun. There are now two F-connectors on the back of the loop, one for the VHF dipole to connect, one for the coax out.
4) The loop element base now has two holes for cable pass-through.
5) The VHF dipoles are a bit longer for better VSWR and are now powder-coated black for a "stealthy" appearance.

The original C2 Complete will remain available until existing stock is depleted.

An additional SKU "C2-V" will be available soon and will be the antenna only, not accessories.


As of today, Amazon finally got the correct photo up for the C2-V-CJM. It had the photo of a different version of the C2 posted since early August.
