Looking for help-Crossville, TN

Good Afternoon,

Obviously I am new here and have been looking into the idea of "cutting the cord", based on my report I'm not sure it's a good idea.

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...46ae838dcd2438

I am kind of in the middle of a triangle between Knoxville, Nashville and Chattanooga. Knoxville is where the Local channels on Direct and Dish come from and just a few miles West of me receive Nashville but it looks like the report suggests Chattanooga?

My home sits in one of the higher elevations in our county but I have a lot of tall trees in the yard surrounding the house.

I currently have Direct TV and have never used an antenna in my current location. I am definitely willing to put an antenna on the roof, but the wife would prefer it not be gigantic.

Any help or suggestions as to setup or what kind of Antenna might have a prayer would be greatly appreciated.

The Tv stations , WCTE , WWWB , WBXX , are strong signal strength and will be received no matter what antenna or the direction the antenna is aimed.

The other Tv stations are Weak Signal Strength and require a large antenna for reception.

Many Digital Tv stations/channels will be received.

Above the roof in such a manner that the roof and house are not , obstructing , impeding , blocking , reception the directions of , South , South East , North West.

Install a Winegard HD7698P antenna aimed at about 198 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Use a Real and Actual magnetic compass to aim antenna.

____________

Install a Winegard , LNA-200 'Boost' XT amplifier.

___________

As always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , have a Negative effect on broadcast Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and building.

The Best Practice is to install the HD7698P antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and building.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the , OTA=Over The Air , Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels , often named the 'Air Channel' ~ 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some digital tv's will Automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select 'Air Channels' ~ 'Antenna Channels'.

Scan for channels.

_______________

Some satellite systems will accept and distribute antenna channels ~via~ the satellite system passive and active componnets.

And some satellite systems WILL NOT.

Check with your satellite system installer.

____

A single continues length of coax can be run from the HD7698P antenna to 1 Tv so as to receive Broadcast Tv untill the satellite system is disconnected.

When satellite service is cancelled.

Disconnect and Remove ALL satellite system passive and active componnets such as and not limited to , multi-switches , multi-plexers , splitters , couplers , power supplies , power injectors , amplifiers , and etc. .

YEs it is Ok to use the satellite systen coaxes and other coaxes that are in/on the building to get the antenna reception from point A to point B.

______________

If any type or kind of cable tv service is being used , be it , cable tv , cable internet service , cable phone service , the cable service/s must not be connected to the coaxes that are being used for the antenna system.

Any cable deliverd service Must Be on a seperate coax.

Also in Crossville

Hey,

I am also in Crossville, surrounded by trees. Put up an Antennacraft HBU44 antenna. I get 12 channels pretty reliably. They are all from Knoxville and include WKNX (7.1 & 7.2), WBIR (10.1 & 10.2), WKOP (15.1, 15.2, & 15.3), WBXX (20.1), WATE (26.1 & 26.3), WVLT (30.1 & 30.2).

Of those above WATE and WKOP are the weakest.

I cannot get WTNZ (34.1 & 34.2).

I will probably be adding a 91XG antenna soon.

I do not have a rotor, but pointed to Chattanoga you can get ABC (WTVC) pretty reliably.

Hope this helps, bob

Thanks

Thanks for the response. I finally cut the cord today....giving up TV for Lent so that allows me some time to experiment. I will likely try your suggestion and go from there if I don't get teh same results.

What you have would be fine for our needs.

A Caution about Solidsignal.

Do Not ask for antenna recommendation.

Do Not allow them to talk you into the antennas they are Pushing.

----------------------

Also if you have not ordered yet.

I am changing my recommendation of preamplifier to a , http://www.antennacraft.net , 10G201 preamplifier.

What part of the county are you in. I'm out 127 North by North School and looking to put up an antenna and cut the cord. I see many people with antenna up this way.
