Help w/ HD antenna...

Hello, this is my first time on the forum and I have a few questions.
I’m looking for direction on what HD antenna to buy. I would really prefer an attic mounted antenna, but would install an outside antenna if need be. My house is vinyl sided with an attic that has ½” OSB and asphalt shingles, 4/12 pitch with blown in insulation. Attic space is approx. 25’ above ground.

This is my report: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...1ddac298cf2bfd

Like I mentioned above, info for an attic (if it would work) and outdoor antenna would be greatly appreciated along with anything else I may be missing… like needing a pre-amp, etc. I do realize that an outdoor antenna will always be better than an attic antenna; but do I live close enough to get good reception from the attic if I went that route?

Thank you for your help…

Attics Are Not a reception friendly environment and Never Will Be a reception friendly environment.

Yes start with a antenna in the attic.

Install a Winegard HD7696P antenna with a Winegard HDP-269 preamp in the attic aimed at about 345 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Looking at the tvfool Current Plus Pending Applications Digital Channel List of the tvfool radar plot and channel list , the Digital Tv stations/channels down the list to and including WUAB-DT REAL UHF Digital channel 28 , virtual number (43.1) MyNetwork , should be received.

As always , the Starting antenna aim direction is the --> starting antenna aim direction.

The aim of and the location of the HD7696P antenna can be changed for best reception.

Most Digital Tv's have a signal strength meter and some Digital Tv's also have a signal quality meter.

The HD7696P antenna can be adjusted for best signal quality and signal strength.

If WIVM-LD REAL UHF Digital channel 39 , virtual number (x.1-2-3-4) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WIVM-LD is not received and you will like to receive it , then install the HD7696P antenna above the roof in such a manner that the roof and house do not block reception to the , north west , north east , east , south east.

Here are some above the roof antenna mounts , http://www.ronard.com/909911.html , http://www.ronard.com/ychim.html , http://www.ronard.com/34424560.html if using the eave mount use the #4560. , http://www.ronard.com.

Buy the ronard antenna mounts at solidsignal by typing the word ronard in the solidsignal search box or buy from ronard.

Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.amazon.com , http://www.winegarddirect.com.

For 3 Tv's connected use a , HFS-3D , 3 way splitter.

Buy the HFS splitters at , http://www.solidsignal.com or http://www.hollandelectronics.com.

As always , trees and tree leaves do a good job of , reflecting , reducing , blocking , Digital Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including you own roof and house.

It is best to install the HD7696P antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and house.
____

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the Broadcast Tv Channels , often named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Digital Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv's will automatic channel scan for the cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Digital Tv setup menu and select , 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels'.

Update on my antenna situation...

I received and installed my Winegard HD7696P antenna in my attic without the preamp (because I haven't received it yet and I was curious) and my reception is fantastic. I aimed the antenna at 345 degree magnetic compass direction and I received 44 channels. So I guess my next question is, do I need the preamp if my reception is already as good as it is? Even my longest run through other splitters has fantastic reception. What will I gain if I do install it? Thanks for the help!

P.S. Even my wife was impressed with the results! She now wants the cable gone pronto!!

Using the Current Plus Pending Applications Included Digital Tv channels list , how far down the list are Digital Tv stations being received.

Example:

WUAB-DT REAL UHF Digital channel 28 , virtual number (43.1) MyNetwork.

WRAP-LP REAL UHF Digital channel 32 , virtual number (32.1) Religion.

The tvfool channel list , lists the , Real channel and (virt.) virtual number.

It is Ok to use the Tv station Call Sign and Programing.

Example: WUAB , MyNetwork

I receive channels down to virtual number 43.1; but do not receive 45.1, 52.1, and 29.1 on down the list. BTW, preamp was delivered in mail yesterday...

If adding the preamp in the attic does not bring in the channels.

Then move the antenna to above the roof.

As always , trees and tree leaves do a real good job of , reflecting , reducing , blocking , Digital Broadcast Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and house.

It is best to install the HD7696P antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and house.

Directional antennas such as the HD7696P antenna receive the best in the forward direction and also receive to a lesser degree at , front angles , rear angles and back of the antenna.
The least amount of reception is directly on the sides of the antenna.

As always , the starting aim direction of a antenna is the --> starting aim direction of the antenna.

The antenna aim can be adjusted to find the best reception.

Most Digital Tv's have a Signal Strength Meter and some Digital Tv's have a Signal Quality Meter.
