Attic Antenna Selection

Hi,

We live between two cities - bigger city is about 40 miles away, smaller city about 25 miles away. We would like to be able to pull in channels from both, but are having a hard time finding a good antenna option. What would you install based on this report? http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...46aefe1344862b

My main goal is to make sure my husband can watch sports - CBS, FOX, etc and I have no idea where to start. Thanks!

A Simple reception situation.

Above the Peak of the Roof in such a manner that reception is not being impeded and blocked by the roof and house in the directions of , East and West.

Install 2 antennas.

Aim a Antennas Direct , Clear Stream 4 UHF antenna at about 82 degree magnetic compass direction.

Aim a Antenna Craft , Y5713 VHF high band antenna at about 272 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Install the CS4 on top and the Y5713 on the bottom on the same mast pipe.

Separate the 2 antennas by about 2 feet or so.

Use a Antennas Direct , EU385CF-1s , diplexer/combiner to connect the CS4 and Y5713 together.

Connect the CS4 to the UHF connection of the combiner.

Connect the Y5713 to the VHF connection of the combiner.

The remaining connection of the combiner is connected to a Winegard AP8700 preamplifier.

As always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , have a Negative effect on reception , multi-path/reflections , absorbing , blocking , reception , and so do buildings including your own roof and house and other obstructions.

The Best Practice is to install the antennas at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions in the directions of reception , at your location that is , East and West.

The Tv'/s Must Channel Scan for the , OTA=Over The Air , Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels , often named the 'Air Channels' or ' Antenna Channels' in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some digital tv's will Automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select , 'Air Channels' ~ 'Antenna Channels'.

Scan for channels.

Please note that I updated a typo that was HBU33 antenna and is now Y5713 antenna.

(If you have ordered the HBU33 antenna , Yes it will work Ok.)

__________

Please note that this is really a simple installation when done one step at a time.

Reason: The wheel is not being reinvented.

Install the antenna mount , then the antennas , aim the antennas , make the connections to the combiner and etc. .

_______________

The reason I have recommend this set up is because , receives Tv stations both directions , West and East.

If I recommend 1 antenna to receive either West or East.

Then down the road , when you become more aware of what is being received and not received.

And yes you will become more aware.

You will most likely return and - Say , what about some Tv stations in the other direction.

___________

Yes this does look like a lot , however it is jumping through the least amount of hoops.
