Quality and reception?

Is there a big difference in quality in cheap 8 bay and name brands? Is there a reception difference to? Do cheap ones use poor Baluns?

Often, yes.

Sometimes. To find out you would need to mount them side-by-side, and switch back and forth with an A/B switch. Disconnecting one and connecting the other isn't quick enough because OTA signals are constantly changing in strength, especially weak ones.

I was able to catch it in a null at times. I learned that bowtie's have decent null areas.
