Screw it..

I'm done with the whole "find your towers, carefully point the antenna, blah blah blah" routine. About the only thing that works is to just plop the antenna somewhere, try to record a few programs on all channels, then find out which ones come back with hundreds or thousands of errors. The place I have it right now is just some random orientation that I thought couldn't possibly be right and magically, I have acceptable error rates.

I'm guessing... The antenna is indoors?

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
