Antenna Advice

Hello,
We would like to place an antenna in our attic to get the local TV channels and to get FM radio channels too. I have read that putting it in the attic reduces reception, so would we need a stronger antenna?

Here is our TV fool analysis:

Your advice is appreciated!

As always , attics and the inside of buildings Are Not a reception friendly environment and Never Will Be a reception friendly environment.

Reason:
Multi-path reflections signals bouncing all around , absorbing , blocking , Broadcast Tv reception.

Recommend install a ANT751 antenna Above The Peak Of The Roof in such a manner that the roof and building are not blocking reception to the , north , north west , north east , west , south west.

Aim the ANT751 antenna at about 10 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Test reception with and without a Winegard LNA-100 'Boost' antenna system amplifier.

______________________________

For 1 Tv connected use No splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a simple common 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a simple common 3 way splitter.

For FM reception use a Separate FM antenna.

Use a Antenna Craft FMSS antenna.

Install the FMSS antenna Above the Peak Of The Roof in such a manner that the roof and building are not blocking reception of All directions.

I recommend install separate coax , splitters and etc. , for the FM antenna to the FM receiver/s.

A FM amplifier will most likely Not be required.

To keep Weather/Water out of outside coax and connections.

For ALL outside coax use the coax that has the Compression type connectors on the ends of the coax , not the old crimp type connectors.

Use New connections outside.

To make double sure that weather/water does not get into outside connections , wrap All connections with , http://www.coaxseal.com.

Remove and Discard , Rubber Weather Boots , the rubber weather boots take in water and hold the water inside , this is not good for connections.

Also wrap the matching transformer (balun) that connects the antenna to the coax with coaxseal.

As always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , have a Negative effect on Broadcast Tv and FM reception and so do buildings including your own roof and building and other obstructions.

The Best Practice is to install antennas at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels , often named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv Seup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv's will Automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select , 'Air Channels' ~ 'Antenna Channels'.

Scan for channels.
